Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand - with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is presented by Marvel Studios and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gilian, Djimon Hounsou with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Commander Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector. Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the film opens August 1, 2014

I can't see anything is the soundtrack just made up of 70's/80's songs? Or is there an actual "Guardians" Score?

The only thing that could make this movie better would be they made Rocket Raccoon a squirrel and Star-Lord was replaced by Sam Alexander.

Pretty cool score. Gonna have to hear the whole thing before I pass judgement, though.

A movie like this? The score was designed to suit the film. All scores are.

"Climatic..."
I think you mean "climactic" unless you're referencing the weather in the movie.

... It kind of does. They made bits of the score in pre-production, the rest afterwards, like all movies do. Why? So they can get the music to reflect what's going on in the movie. In the case of themes, they can be done beforehand because they embody a character, not a moment.

Sounds a bit samey to Thor:TDW, though that isn't entirely a bad thing.

If any of these films deserves an iconic theme, it is the Avengers.

Okay, that's sound enough (pardon the pun), but you can't really make final judgements on the score till you've seen the movie and heard the score over the scenes the score was designed to reflect. I'll admit, I would've preferred something a bit more space-y.

I dig it. Can definitely hear the THOR:TDW influence. One thing I've noticed about Marvel's movies and action movie scores in general, though: the climactic battle scene music is rarely the best or most representative part of the score. The now notable exception that comes to mind is PIRATES 3: AT WORLD'S END and maybe John Williams' score for STAR WARS and INDIANA JONES.
