Possible Running Time For GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Revealed

Here's a possible running time for James Gunn's debut into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Guardians of the Galaxy.

By Starkasm - Jun 29, 2014 12:06 AM EST

After reporting the running times for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, X-Men: Days of Future Past and just recently Dawn of the Planet of the Apes using the same source...it seems this is becoming my thing.

The James Gunn helmed film is Marvel's first venture into the cosmos. And it comes in at slightly over 2 hours. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is due to release on the 8th of August (AUS).

Starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillen and Lee Pace.

Synopsis
In the far reaches of space, an American pilot named Peter Quill finds himself the object of a manhunt after stealing an orb coveted by the villainous Ronan.

Cool beans, but as Maniac pointed out they have to introduce 5 main characters, set up the villians, introduce the Mcguffin, bring the characters together ect. all in less than two and a half hours. I hope they do it right.

I'm so sick of those short runtimes for Marvel movies. What the hell.

Hmmm... I was hoping it would be closer to 2 and a half hours long.

Really counting on this one to be good as it looks. Besides TWS all the marvel sequels have certainly been average if not disappointing.

@batmaniac

I'm not too worried about it. Can't wait for this film.

Since when was 2 hours not a good runtime?

A longer run-time doesn't always mean better quality, look at ASM2 and transformers 4.

There aren't many CBM longer than 2 hours with actual character development, at least on the villain's front. This isn't a movie about the villains, it's about the team coming together. As long as there is some form of motivation that makes any kind of sense is all that matters. It's all in the pacing.

Im looking forwad for this movie. But i d hope Ronan doesn't become another Malekith.

Can anyone who's seen the film confirm if Ronan is this year's Malekith?

@BatManiac

Some movies benefit from shorter run-times, others don't. I think we should just wait for the movie to come out first. But James Gunn seems to be pretty happy with the finished result of the film, so I have faith.

@batmaniac

I get what you mean. But there is really only 6 characters to set up. I think 2 hours is long enough. Thor: TDW's problem wasn't the running time. For me, it was the wasted screen time on Darcy, the intern and Selvig.

I'm cool with the running time
They can get a lot done with that

I don't think this movie should be more than 2 hrs long...... yet
This is playing it on the safe side

Just a quick fyi, the original Star Wars was also 121 minutes.

That is GotG in a nutshell.

I agree with Omega, there really only seem to be three main characters (Quill, Rocket and Gamora).
JoJo1982
JoJo1982 - 6/29/2014, 1:49 AM
Yeah I honestly don't think groot and rocket's origins need a lot of screen time for their origins.... pretty much 2 or 3 minutes to explain their backstory.
Gamora ' s story seems to follow the plot of the movie, Drax I hope we get into more, and it's more of a Starboard story than the rest of the gang

@BatManiac

I think its pretty obvious that Quill is the main character.
JoJo1982

@batmaniac

I Ronan might not get the short end of the stick in this movie. Nebula looks like she will just be more of a villain for Gamora and also be the "Faora" of this movie. Looks more like The collector might get the short end of the stick, since he plays more of a role in what's going to happen in the future MCU

@batmaniac
Yeah I really hope Ronan doesn't get short end of the stick, but the fact that he

SPOILER......... doesn't die is very good sign that we will see more of him in future mcu movies ........ SPOILER END
JoJo1982

I'm trying to remember, did we even get some farther development on Thor in the 2nd movie. I mean Chris is a great as Thor but in dark world it just felt like he was only there to romance Jane or let his brother chew him up in screen time together.
JoJo1982
JoJo1982 - 6/29/2014, 2:24 AM
Malekith serious got the short end of the stick.
I seen the movie several times now and I still don't understand why he wants to make the universe dark.... well they don't say in the movie.
JoJo1982

@omega
Right, I agree!!!
I'm not saying the movie is bad cause of that, cause it's really a entertaining movie. But the movie just felt lacking in a lot of parts that could've made it a pretty epic movie. The studio cut that movie up pretty bad and it shows a lot
JoJo1982
JoJo1982 - 6/29/2014, 2:37 AM
@omega

Yeah but why make the universe dark? it's not like they was weak or dying(like vampires) with there being no darkness though most of the movie taking place in the middle of the day
JoJo1982
JoJo1982 - 6/29/2014, 2:41 AM
@batmaniac

Sadly I agree, cause I felt that Dark world improved on the action part and had a more classic villain to fight, also loki was a scene stealer always. But Thor 1 really had the character development with its characters that really shined in Phase 1
