Steve McNiven Has Been "Tossing Design Ideas Around" With Marvel Studios For GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
Steve McNiven has redesigned the Guardians of the Galaxy for a new "Marvel NOW!" series and reveals here he has talked with Marvel Studios about creating some unity between the movie and comic.
The Guardians of the Galaxy concept art unveiled at this year's San Diego Comic Con featured costume designs which closely resembled the well-known look of the team in the Marvel Universe. However, next February's "Marvel NOW!" comic book series by All-New X-Men writer Brian Michael Bendis features a complete redesign of each of the characters by artist Steve McNiven. "I'm trying to re-design the whole team here," the writer said of his approach to redesigning the team in a recent interview with Newsarama. "My approach to the designs was to match them to the characters and to update the look. Double-breasted jackets and outer space adventure don't really fit these days." A lot of "Marvel NOW!" has seen the comic book costumes receive looks which are a little closer to the of the movies, and it appears as if there will be SOME similarities between the designs in this series and James Gunn's big screen adaptation. "I have been in touch with the movie studio guys and we are all tossing design ideas around, so hopefully we can have some unity between the movie and comic looks."
