Thanos Featured In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Scene Description; Spin-Offs Planned For Team?

We know that Thanos will have a presence in Guardians of the Galaxy, but based on the following description of a very brief scene from the movie, he'll have a very notable role indeed. As if that wasn't exciting enough, solo spin-offs for the likes of Rocket and Groot are being considered!

While Thanos is never directly named in the following description for a scene being put together for Guardians of the Galaxy during Bloomberg's recent visit to Marvel Studios, common sense says that's exactly who we're talking about here! Not only does this give us an idea about the collaboration between Kevin Feige and the directors working on the movies he produces, but this serves as an interesting tease as to what we should expect from Thanos' presence in the movie later this year. Seeing his floating throne should also prove to be a real treat for longtime fans...

Gunn freezes a frame of an imposing-looking villain any serious comic book fan would recognize instantly. He sits on a rocket-powered throne. Feige sees something on the screen that he doesn’t like. The evildoer needs to be farther away in the frame so he looks more imperious, he says.

“I don’t know,” says Gunn. “I think it’s going to look cool, man.”

“You just don’t want him to feel petty in that way,” Feige says. “I think it’s a fine line.”

“How do you think it comes off as petty here?” Gunn says.

“He’s so damn close,” Feige says.

“Yeah,” concedes Gunn. “I think I’m going to have him floating in space.”

Feige is concerned about the throne, too. He points at the base. “Those don’t need to be rockets,” he says. “Maybe gravity disks?” Feige says he’ll check back later.

In the hallway he extracts a pledge not to name the bad guy. “That could not be a bigger spoiler,” Feige says.

The report adds that the success of Guardians of the Galaxy, "could potentially spin off members of the Guardians of the Galaxy, which include Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Groot, and Rocket Raccoon, in their own features." This is a particularly interesting proposition, but one which could arguably work depending on how well received the movie is when it's released in August. A Star-Lord solo feature seems likely based on the fact that he's starred in his own comic book series, while the appeal of a Rocket Raccoon/Groot spin-off is hard to deny! What do you guys think?

This is why they are so closely intertwined and stay without canon holes. Feige and wheadon are working with every director to make sure there aren't any issues with their storyline movie to movie.

Stop, collaborate, and listen. Are these full fledged movies or are these shorts? Because I think few people would want to see a film about a talking tree and a talking Raccoon.

I want them to only be a team. Give them solos in animated form. Let's get more cosmic franchises out there first.

I definitely don't want to see a GOTG spin-off. Why not just make a sequel instead?

Hell no to spin-offs. Dr. Strange, Black Panther, Ms. Marvel, Namor, etc. need films first.

Feige has something to do in every MCU movie, from the better ones to the ones you don't like.
If you think Feige didn't do anything in avengers, TWS, etc. you are kidding yourself.
He doesn't just say what's going to be the next movie. There's a reason why everyone in Marvel love him.

Nova Corp spinoff!! I could see a spinoff of Groot and Rocket. I think it would have to be a prequel aboout where they come from. I really think they will steal the show.

I wouldn't mind a Rocket and Groot prequel one shot but I don't want the tem to disband so quickly

Sometimes I bet the directors of these films hate the way Feige micromanages and breathes down their necks. A Star lord solo feature would be like getting a Han Solo solo film (which has yet to happen unfortunately. That would be great. Rocket and Groot are gamble. They work well within a team film but idk if causal movie goers would watch a raccoon and tree kick ass.

Nova spin off pleasssssssssssssssssseee!!! Richard Rider!!!!!
EdgyOutsider
EdgyOutsider - 4/3/2014, 8:09 AM
I don't want a solo movie for each of the Guardians, I just would want another Guardians of the Galaxy movie if I like it. Maybe a Nova Corps spin off but that would be the extent. Too many other interesting characters could and should get movies.
GinjaNinja
GinjaNinja - 4/3/2014, 8:11 AM
Directors ususally don't like working with feige I'll bet. He really gets into their business and doesn't give them free reign over their films. But you know what? HE CAN'T LET THEM! It takes 1 director to add characters, or not have characters in one movie, write them poorly and all of a sudden an entire storyline is ruined. Imagine they put warlock in GOTG, completely ruin him, what happens then? Warlock's storyline is totally screwed up for the future. That's why it HAS to be this way, you know two things when working with marvel: your going to make big money with great characters, and number two is your going to have to play by their rules.

It does kinda sound like Feige is micro-managing. However I believe that in the MCU the devil is in the details. We literally pick apart every single detail of these films to the point of pure ridiculousness. That lets you know how much of a comic fan Feige is. He is one of us.

I hated the way they made Thanos look in The Avengers; it took me right out of the moment.

They should have spent a bit more time with him in post-production.

A spin-off for Rocket and Groot would be interesting (for the GA and hardcore fans who love em) but honestly is it really necessary? I could see some cool One-Shots but an actual film? lol I'm sure it would be action packed and humorous but I'd honestly like to see Nova get a spin-off more than these guys.
