RUMOR: BUMBLEBEE Director Travis Knight May Be The Frontrunner To Helm GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3
Take this with a grain of salt, but a new report is indicating that Marvel Studios may be closing in on Bumblebee director Travis Knight to helm their currently delayed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
It may be Friday, but that's not stopping the rumor mill from churning and the latest comes to us from The DisInsider, who is reporting that Marvel Studios may be keying in on Travis Knight (Bumblebee; Kubo and the Two Strings) to replace James Gunn as the director of the now-delayed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
It would be strongly advised to take this report with a huge grain of salt, but considering that Knight was previously a finalist for The Eternals before Chloe Zhao (The Rider) landed the job, it does seem that he's already on Marvel's radar, which could bode well for him based on the studio's hiring history. Looking back at this year, Zhao was offered The Eternals in September after losing out on Black Widow in July, a job that ultimately went to Cate Shortland (Lore), so, if Marvel/Disney were already interested, it wouldn't be a stretch to assume that they would reach out to Knight again for Guardians 3.
Knight recently completed Paramount's Bumblebee, which is due out this Christmas, and has been garnering quite a bit of attention - and positive pre-release buzz - for his work on the Transformers spin-off, which would make him one of the more in-demand directors currently on the market.
While details remain scarce, it was recently reported that production had been delayed until at least February 2021, so regardless of who lands the directing job, it's going to be awhile before the Guardians return to the silver screen.
