James Gunn is reportedly planning to shoot the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special around the same time as Vol. 3, and the filmmaker has now revealed an intriguing new detail about the Disney+ exclusive.
Responding to a fan on Twitter who asked if the GOTG Holiday Special would introduce a new character "just like with Boba Fett in the Star Wars holiday special," Gunn confirmed that, yes, this project will introduce "one of the greatest MCU characters of all time."
The director does acknowledge that this is just his "incredibly subjective and admittedly often odd opinion," but this is still a pretty big deal. Gunn has already hinted that the Holiday Special will tie directly into the events of Vol. 3, so whoever this new hero (or villain!) is, they'll most likely go on to have a significant presence in the Marvel Studios threequel.
Who could he be referring to here? There are numerous possibilities, and while a lot of fans are going to assume it's Richard Rider/Nova, we're leaning toward Rom The Space Knight! Gunn has often expressed his love for the Galadorian warrior, though rights issues - which could still be a factor - prevented him from utilizing the character sooner.
Again, the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe is vast, so we could be way off base here. Be sure to share your own theories in the comments down below.
