Chris Hemsworth Responds To Dolph Lundgren's Suggestion That He Play 'He-Man'

Many fans have said he would be right for the role, and even the star of 1987's Masters of the Universe Dolph Lundgren has given Chris Hemsworth his approval to play 'He-Man' in John Chu's remake. So, is The Avengers star interested? Find out here!

Back in August, original 'He-Man' Dolph Lundgren revealed that either Channing Tatum or Chris Hemsworth would be his top choice to play the iconic character in Jon M. Chu's reboot of Masters of the Universe. Hemsworth in particular is frequently suggested for the role by fans, but is he actually interested? Well, talking to Empire Magazine recently, the Australian star of Thor: The Dark World revealed that 'He-Man' is a little too similar to the God of Thunder for his liking and also commented on whether he would be interested in playing a villain at some point in the near future. Check out the excerpt below and be sure to pick up the issue (on sale this Wednesday) for more.

Thor did have a similar sense of fun to those kinds of movies. It was like Masters of the Universe, but done well!

[Laughs] I'll have to go back and watch that. They're redoing that, aren't they?

They are. Dolph Lundgren -

Said something about me?

He did, he did. Dolph Lundgren gave his stamp of approval for your playing He-Man.

I can't play He-Man, it's pretty much Thor, isn't it?

Exactly! Are you worried about that sort of thing? "Oh yeah, he's Thor so he'll be good for He-Man." Does this mean you can never play a villain or a reprehensible person?

Yeah, I'd probably have to make more of an effort to get that kind of role.

i remember hearing that the script from a year or 2 ago was brilliant. i doubt we'll see that one, but combine:

- game of thrones
- gladiator
- thor
- LOTR's

with a little bit of extra supernatural for some of the more 'out there' characters, & we could have a truly different film on our hands. THAT's what is key for me. we need to see something NEW/FRESH from this, otherwise he's right - it's just a variation of thor. it can be an original film if they allow it.

also i don't wanna see hemsworth in the role. there's no shortage of actors out there, let's hope they find someone new. we don't need sam worthington, hemsworth & the other usual suspects being thrown around. new, new, new. please.

I think it's best if Hemsworth goes out and Does something that isn't Thor. He-Man is too much like Thor, they need to give HE-MAN a massive overhall. I had a great Idea for He-Man as a Trilogy.

An unknown would be better I think. Either have two people to play He-man and Prince Adam or use special affects ala CAPTAIN AMERICA. Hopefully no Orko or talking Cringer unless the writers can come up with a darker tone for these characters. One more thing; please ramp up He-man,s strength and abilities like the cartoon. The 80,s movie got the look right but little else.

Nah it's just lazy fancasting like the people on this site do all the time lol. Uncreative people pick somebody who's identical to another role or character cause they can't think of anybody else. They have no imagination. Or it's just like I said, laziness lol.

@Batman, read my comment lol. Lazy casting choices are no beuno.

You want Brad Pitt, who played Achilles in Troy who kinda looks like He-Man to play He-Man lol? Really? Why don't we just go get Hugo Weaving to play Skeletor too while we're at it lol.

Hate the fact Hollywoid is making all superheros young, chiseled jawed, pretty boys you know.
Title speaks for it self "He~man" not He~kid.

Anyway! I remember skeletor saying i'll be back at the end of the movie. I'm still waiting after all these years. He must be hatching the most evil plan ever. And he better win this time.

Vital

@Dio, Dolph does have that look on him, he'd make a cool Sabretooth. But I don't know how well he can move, he seemed okay in Expendables fight scenes, unless it was a stunt double in most of it lol.

I agree with most people here who say he should avoid typecasting. Give the role to someone else (my pick is Karl Urban).

Just imagine him with blonde hair. BTW, wasn't he up for Thor at one point?

@prot3ctor Actually cabin in the woods and red dawn where both filmed before Thor. In fact on either the avengers commentary or that 90min. featurette but whedon said that while he was working with hemsworth on cabin in the woods (while casting for thor was going on) he asked chris "why aren't you playing thor?" and chris said that he was in the early rounds but nothing came of it. Joss apparently called up branaugh (probably spelled incorrectly) and asked him to look at hemsworth again. We all know how that worked out.

I really liked that story, partly cause I'm glad hemsworth got the role, but mostly because joss was helping with the MCU before he was even hired by them.

Colleague - 11/26/2012, 6:11 PM
Man, did Hemsworth diss comic book fans lately? It seems almost every article pertaining to him is full of negativity. And no, I don't remember him being in everything. Two of his four films this year (Cabin and Red Dawn) had been sitting on a studio shelf for a few years. His other two films (Avengers and Snow White) he wasn't even the focal point of both films. This guy hasn't even hit the zenith of overexposure and already people are whining like babies.

The movie is called A Perfect Getaway!
Karl Urban would be good but with muscles.

"Title speaks for it self "He~man" not He~kid."

Last I checked, Chris Hemsworth was a full grown man, pushing 30. Funny you prefer Brad Pitt who even at almost 50, looks like a plastic ken doll.

No reason for him to take it, and it isn't because he's already been there done that. It's because if he were to take time out of his schedule to film something like that, he might as well get paid like a boss and do an actual Thor movie.

Yeah lfanch beat me to it... Cabin and dawn were filmed before Thor... Now huntsman did feel like the same character but probably bc of the fantasy setting, which he man would have too

Not talking about their age, man, talking about how young they look to play the part. Look at Dolph when he played he man. He didn't look young or senile.

If Hemsworth is the fan favorite and he doesn't want it, I say cast his brother Liam. Get Chris Hemsworth Lite.
