McG No Longer Directing MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE; MAN OF STEEL's David Goyer Penning Screenplay

Masters of the Universe recently shifted release dates, but more details have surfaced about possible casting decisions, why McG is no longer directing, and who is taking charge of the script...

Masters of the Universe may be coming Christmas 2019, but the movie now finds itself without a director. McG (Charlie's Angels) has been attached to the project since early 2016, but Sony Pictures is now meeting with other filmmakers as they seemingly look to take the project in a new direction.

That included a new writer in the form of David S. Goyer (Man of Steel). He's supposed to be penning Green Lantern Corps with an eye to direct, but he's clearly found the time to work on this one too.

Whether or not you're happy with that will depend on how much you like Goyer, but here's where things get really interesting. Apparently, many actors - including A-Listers - are vying for key roles in Masters of the Universe, a sign this will be well ahead of movies like Conan and Power Rangers!

@tugboy -

If the movie was coming out later i could see Chris Hemsworth in the role. He's already been type-cast into playing a role in Snow White and the Huntsman and its sequel/prequel - and he's the least likely Avenger to be given focus after Infinity War because Ragnarok seems to be throwing in all his storylines/plotlines into one.

@Scarilian - I was TOTALLY thinking of him for the role... but it's quite similar to THOR, not sure that helps....

His Gladiator esque style in Thor Ragnarok could very well work as his audition for the role - and i'm sure that most movie producers nowadays are hoping to get recogniseable actors from either the MCU or DCEU - similar to how Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and Forest Whitaker (who was coincidentally cast in Black Panther) all appeared in Arrival.

@Scarilian - Yeh, all those points are VALID... but I meant the CHARACTERS are quite similar...
