Colin Firth Offered Villain Role In Spike Lee's Oldboy

Twitch are once again on point with some casting news for Spike Lee's Oldboy remake. This time it seems an offer has been made to Oscar winning British actor Colin Firth to star as Adrian, the pretty sick villain of the story..

This would be a left field choice should Firth accept. We last saw him in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and before that giving his Oscar winning turn as The King Of England in The King's Speech. A role like that of Adrian, the twisted villain in the very violent Oldboy story, would certainly be a big departure. Anyway, it appears he is the man that Mandate Pictures want for the role.

From Twitch..

At one point actor Colin Firth was attached to play a key role in Oldboy director Park Chan-wook's English language debut, Stoker. That didn't work out but now Firth may very well end up playing the villain role in Spike Lee's upcoming remake of Park's Oldboy.

Twitch has learned that an offer is out to Firth for the part of Adrian, which means that - should he accept - he will be stepping into the villain role opposite Josh Brolin.

It was previously reported that Christian Bale was being looked at for this but obviously that fell through. But as anyone who has seen the original Korean flick or read the Manga on which it is based knows, with Brolin playing the lead it makes more sense for the villain to be closer to his age. No word on whether Firth will accept of course, but we will keep you posted. If it pans out what would you think of this casting choice?

I think Christian Bale would be a lot better choice, but hey that's just me.

@nomis, do it and prepare for your mind to be blown!

@lukecage, Man I imagine American Psycho type Bale owning that role. It would be too much on screen goodness.

I prefer Christian Bale, even Colin Firth could be a good choice as well.

Would've liked Christian Bale, but Firth isn't a bad choice.

in terms of the film bale would make more sense. hes closer to the original actors' portrayal of the character. havent read the manga source material but i doubt it would very much suit firth's acting persona as up to this point.

however it could be nice to bring something new to the remake this way. christopher waltz could also be an interesting choice!

I think Bale is actually a better choice, but I want to see someone who hasn't really played the villain before. Otherwise I'd feel like I was watching Patrick Bateman up there again. If I recall the villain looked really young in the original, compared to the protagonist.
