Fans of comedy are in mourning following the annoucement of director Ivan Reitman's passing on Februrary 12th 2022. The news was announced on the 13th, confirming he died peacefully in his sleep. The statement given by his children Jason, Catherine and Caroline reads:

“Our family is grieving the unexpected loss of a husband, father, and grandfather who taught us to always seek the magic in life, We take comfort that his work as a filmmaker brought laughter and happiness to countless others around the world. While we mourn privately, we hope those who knew him through his films will remember him always.”

Reitman was the famed director behind Ghostbusters and it's sequel and continued to act as a producer and ambassador of the franchise. He served as a producer for the 2016 reboot and recently was actively involved in last year's Ghostbusters Afterlife directed by his son Jason, even standing in to play the ghost form of Egon Spengler, originally portrayed by the late Harold Ramis.

He also directed Meatballs, Stripes, Kindergarden Cop, Junior and Twins among others. He had been working on a sequel to Twins titled "Triplets" prior to his passing.

Our thoughts are with the Reitman family. RIP.
