Move over Edward, Fright Night's back

Remake not catering to the twilight fans

Im sure most of you remember the classic movie Fright Night, it remains one of my favourite Horror flicks so i was not happy to hear about this remake, especialy with all the watered down vampire films we are being force fed.

After hearing this interview im begining to have an open mind, producer Michael De Luca who is working on the project has given this interview to collider.

"I get it that remakes are a drag to hear about," he says. "I’m on the Internet all the time. I know what they say. Like there’s no original ideas in Hollywood. I understand the responsibility on the remake front of things because there are fans…you have responsibility I think to the fans of the original and you also have the responsibility to not suck even more than something original because you have so many people expecting you to suck because of the predisposed bias against remakes and stuff."

"And with Fright Night, with all the romantic vampire stuff going on with The Vampire Diaries and True Blood and Twilight, the most obvious. We thought it would be interesting if, in this atmosphere of the way the vampire is being portrayed right now as a romantic object, under the wire of all that in the culture the real thing moves in next door. And the real thing is a killer. Just a predator. It’s the shark from Jaws. On the outside it’s a seductive package and it looks like a human being, but it’s just about ripping your throat out and drinking your blood. And introducing that kind of vampire into the current environment."

So who knows, a needless remake...yes. A break from sparkling emo vamps...maybe.

And yes before its mentioned Fright Night was indeed a comic book, published by Now Comics the run lasted from 1988 to 1990 :P

Fright Night is hoping to go into production this year.

Thanks to Hawksblueyes for making me aware of this remake :)

Teabag out :P

On one hand- yeah another remake and another vampire movie.

On the other- Finally, vampires the way they are supposed to be.

The original film is a true classic. He's got some big shoes to fill, so to speak.

Good stuff Tea. Hopefully this doesn't go down the emo road. I saw this movie a looong time ago. Wasn't the vamp some real charming guy the girls were all digging? No one would believe the kid except the old crazy man (Roddy McDowell). Is that the same one?

I liked how they animated the transformation from human to bat near the end. Still cool to me.

I was against this but it doesn't sound to bad. I'd rather they market it as a Romy Romance Vamp type crap and then surprise them in the theaters instead of a "Not your ordinary vampire love story" type gag.

I own both the Fright Nights on dvd, I loved those movies growing up they were "horror" movies but also had those comical moments so it didn't really frighten me as a kid

@Betty-great idea. Treat it as the next Twicrap emo movie. They won't know what hit em. It'll be good for guys-girls will hold on so tight you couldn't fit a coat of paint between the two.

i didn't know that the the star of the original movie's girlfriend in the movie was Marcy from Married With Children. of course she looked hotter back then but it doesn't b/c she's a lesbo. n e wayz this movie use to scare me back in the day as a kid. now a days vampire movies have gotten gay like Twilight. i would rather them do a reboot of Blade or just continue where they left off.

@ecksmanfan

Everyone seems to forget about "30 days of nights." Vampires are still being done "the way they are suppose to be."

Another remake, blah. Seen "Fright Night" great movie, does not need to be remade. How about another sequel to Fright Night? I would find that way more interesting than a Reboot/Remake/Redo. Maybe have the original vampire come back for Charlie after 25 years, trying to get to him thru his and Amy's daughter. I'm sure the orginal actors aren't busy, except Roddy McDowall. (he is busy in a whole different way) Yeah I know Hollyweird needs some young sexy in the movie, oh well, just MHO.
