The Character Of Ash Will Probably Not Appear In Evil Dead Remake

Although Bruce Campbell will make an appearance, the character he made famous in Sam Raimi's horror classics will most likely not.

When this movie was first announced it wasn't clear if it would be a sequel, a reboot, a prequel..all we knew is that it had original director Sam Raimi on board in some capacity and that fan favorite Bruce Campbell would also be involved. Then word reached us that the new Evil Dead would be directed by Federico Alvarez with a screenplay by Diablo Cody and it would in fact be a straight up remake. Fans weren't best pleased by this but at least it meant we would get to see Ash onscreen again even if he was being played by a different actor right? Wrong.

From Bloody Disgusting

Campbell, already confirmed for a cameo, took to Twitter where he dispelled any notion of Ash returning. "Who are they casting for Ash?" asked a fan. Campbell replied: "No Ash character currently," further stating, "Twitter fails when info gets fragmented. Last statement: ED remake is a re-telling. All bets are off & all involved love the new approach."

So there you have it, it's not EXACTLY a straight remake, more of a "re-telling". Right, gotcha. I wasn't too optimistic about this but was curious to see how they would handle the remake. Now that it's pretty much all up in the air as to what story they tell and we have no Ash I'm really not holding out much hope. But, at the very least Raimi is still a factor so I'll wait and see how it progresses. Still, NOT groovy.

I will not be seeing this. The original movies where good because of Ash (Bruce). Eliminating him eliminated the draw for me. BOOO to this...

If ever there was a remake/reboot that deserved the question "What's the point?!?", this is it. Bad enough Campbell isn't in it, but no Ash? What's the point?

@NoRegrets

well the book was hidden until the cabin owner got it. then his wife turned into one. and then ash's story. past people would be the knights, and well ash was there to, because you can't stop him from ripping there shit. the only way to go while being in the same universe would be ash cont.

I wan't to see a 4th so bad. a video game had the idea of the book being read over TV and shit tons of people turning into deadites. I'd love to see that. Ash verses deadites of a massive scale in a big city, with of course bruce playing old ash.

So what's the point then???? You need the original Ash or else no movie

I don't want to see anyone but Bruce Campbell playing Ash anyway, so this doesn't change anything. Still not all that interested in a non-Bruce-starring, non-Raimi-directed Evil Dead film anyway.

If Dickblow Cody's involved it's going to suck, on a whole new level of suck.

Like a sucky meteor, being sucked into a sucky blackhole...

This "re-telling" doesn't hurt the originals. They will always be there and no one can change that.

If this is good even without ash then that would be a great accomplishment.

It should be set after the last movie, have some new guy or girl find the book and battle some undead, become over whelmed and just when it looks like all hope is lost Bruce Campbell comes in to save the day, simple as that, oh and create some sort of parallel alternate Ash that returns from an apocolypic future to help out:)
