When this movie was first announced it wasn't clear if it would be a sequel, a reboot, a prequel..all we knew is that it had original director Sam Raimi on board in some capacity and that fan favorite Bruce Campbell would also be involved. Then word reached us that the new Evil Dead would be directed by Federico Alvarez with a screenplay by Diablo Cody and it would in fact be a straight up remake. Fans weren't best pleased by this but at least it meant we would get to see Ash onscreen again even if he was being played by a different actor right? Wrong.
From Bloody Disgusting
Campbell, already confirmed for a cameo, took to Twitter where he dispelled any notion of Ash returning. "Who are they casting for Ash?" asked a fan. Campbell replied: "No Ash character currently," further stating, "Twitter fails when info gets fragmented. Last statement: ED remake is a re-telling. All bets are off & all involved love the new approach."
So there you have it, it's not EXACTLY a straight remake, more of a "re-telling". Right, gotcha. I wasn't too optimistic about this but was curious to see how they would handle the remake. Now that it's pretty much all up in the air as to what story they tell and we have no Ash I'm really not holding out much hope. But, at the very least Raimi is still a factor so I'll wait and see how it progresses. Still, NOT groovy.
