It's been just under a decade since we last saw Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita, and Little Rock, but it sounds like we'll be reuniting with the zombie-killing foursome very, very soon.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures has finally greenlit a sequel to Zombieland, the 2009 hit horror/comedy the grossed over $102.4 million worldwide on a modest $23.6 million production budget. The entire principal cast, which consisted of 3x Academy Award-nominee Woody Harrelson, Academy Award-nominee Jesse Eisenberg, Academy Award-winner Emma Stone, and Academy Award-nominee Abigail Breslin, have all been confirmed to return.

Ruben Fleischer, who recently completed Venom, is back in the director's chair with a script from original Zombieland - and Deadpool - scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.

The sequel will follow our heroes to the White House and through the American heartland as they continue to survive in the wake of the zombie apocalypse and face off with new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. However, as always, their most pressing issues will be the growing pains of their own makeshift family, which should result in some high-quality entertainment.

Production is slated to begin in January 2019 with an October 2019 release date, coinciding with the original film's 10th anniversary, currently being finalized.

In a statement, Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch said, “This is one of those projects that fans have wanted to see happen for a long time – and no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse, and Abigail. These are some of the most in-demand actors and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters. We are thrilled Ruben was willing to come back to direct the sequel, as his work on Venom has been truly amazing.

Such a great feat to get everyone back on board after all this time and despite the career arcs of some of those involved, impressive just based on that alone.

For fun, my top 5 zombie films in no order.

1. 28 days Later
2. Zombieland
3. Dawn of the Dead (Snyder's version)
4. Shaun of the Dead
5. 28 weeks later

Fast zombies freak me out a little, so while I do like Romero's orginals, they didn't scare me.

Also, an underrated zombie film is Warm Bodies. Very unique and pretty damn good.

Some late sequels like this don’t have the magic that the original had. Zoolander 2 was meh, Dumb and Dumberer was meh but Supertroopers 2 and Trainspotting 2 were actually good so hopefully this will be good.
