Louis Leterrier on Bringing Back Ed Norton for Hulk 2

Louis Leterrier on Bringing Back Ed Norton for Hulk 2

The Incredible Hulk director talks about the chances of Ed Norton returning and the possibility of a sequel...

"It depends," the director told MTV News. "It's not a Marvel/Edward thing, it would be really be about, well... We told the story of the fugitive, what's the next step in the story?"

"It can't just be 'Don't make me angry, you wouldn't like me when I'm angry,'" he explained. "That would be a problem if you do the same thing over and over again. Edward's never done the same movie twice, so I don't think he would do that."

However, the director did go on to say that given the right material he's sure that Norton would be more than happy to return as Bruce Banner, "If you find something interesting — yeah, I'm sure he would be back. He's a fanboy. He's as big a fanboy as you and me, maybe even more."

However, Leterrier wasn't optimistic about the odds of making another Hulk movie anytime soon, "The box office for 'Incredible Hulk' was great, but it wasn't so big that you had to make a sequel," he said.

The way I see it, most of the world sees Hulk as a villain, and they could only expose that part of Hulk in The film. Kinda like Thor's situation. We know Thor is an actual god from Asgard, but does the world know that? No they don't, they just see him as a lunitic with an enhanced invention for a hammer. Well thats how it is with Hulk. We know Hulk isn't really a villain, because we all saw his story in his own film. The Avengers could end with Hulk finally be noticed as a hero, and lead to a sequel, exploring things. To fully understand a way this could all work, check out my fan series using all of the confirmed info on The Avengers.

incredible hulk was great, but i don't see a sequel anytime soon. I just hope norton is involved in the avengers movie. how awesome would it be to see hulk lift thor's hammer and smack him upside the head with it. geekgasm!

Oh no, Norton has standards and doesn't want to put out a crappy movie. He's such an a-hole. Thought I'd bring the sarcasm before the real Norton bashing started. @Nickfury: I agree with him as a villain in the Avengers. He was a villain for the first few stories in the comics (Ultimates & 616). I could see after Thor having a weakened Loki in the process of controlling the Hulk.

@Tea: Men who can't lactate are not real men.

Hulk 2 would be fantastic, but I would rather them focus on getting Norton in the Avengers movie first. That should generate enough fan buzz to get a Hulk 2 going afterwards.

So since the 'fugitive' story is over with, and well played-out, it's time for the world to start embracing Hulk.

What sucks is that if something isn't a big enough cash cow they probably won't revisit it. People may have just been skeptical considering the previous HULK was still fresh in their memories.

Lol, thanks tea! :) It would have been brilliant to be looking forward to an Incredible Hulk 2 movie this year as well! I hope this doesnt mean that if Cap or Thor dont do to well we wont see sequels to them either!

It would be a real pity if Norton doesnt return as Bruce...I know they could get away with just using a CGI Hulk but without Banner (brilliantly portrayed by Norton) I dont think it would be anywhere near as good!

LuckyKyd - 1/27/2010, 10:29 AM
Well its pretty simple then, give him the inavoidably amazing script for Avengers, when it's done and let him read it. I'm sure if the rumours about Loki working a spell that makes Hulk go bananas is true, that it would open up for a very different portrayal of both Hulk and Bruce Banner, that Norton would be more than happy to play.

Fingers crossed they make something interesting with Hulk, to get Norton onboard.

I don't want the Hulk to be too socialized to the point where he looses his anti hero status - and the end of the Avengers movie i wan't him to wild out and be on the run again like in the non Ultimate universe -hope to see a Doc Sampson and the Leader on screen- don't know how She Hulk and Mr.Fixit would work in film, but wouldn't mind seeing em

Norton's great but why hire someone who wont stick with the franchise? I think a sequel would be good deal with the Leader, Hulk busters,Doc Samson or the seperation of Banner from Hulk

My only slight grief with the Inredible Hulk was that Hulk still looked fake in the college battle scene and the fight with the Abomination at the end, was to short and didn't show one anothers feats of strength enough. I hope Ed will come back. I think a story with the Leader would be awesome!

There should be a save Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) website like they did for Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) in Stargate SG-1. Just a thought.

And I understand we don't know the circumstances of him returning/not returning, but at least it will be out there we want him back. *shrug*

BigMacYak - 1/27/2010, 11:23 AM
I remember reading a while back that A) Edward Norton was signed to a multi-picutre deal to play Bruce Banner and B) when he worked on the script for The Incredible Hulk, he envisioned it as the first part in a three part story. I can't find the links to those articles anywhere but if I do, I'll put them up. I think that his experience working on the first movie (the studio wanting a more action-oriented flick while he and Leterrier wanted a more character driven story) kinda soured him on making anymore Hulk movies.

DON'T ACTOR SIGN A FRAKING AGREEMENT STATING THEY HAVE TO DO A CERTAIN NUMBER OF SEQUELS?..DOING ONE HULK MOVIE AND NOT DOING THAT IF IT TAKES OFF WELL WOULD BE FREAKING DUMB.

If they cant get norton to come back for Avengers what do you think they would do? espically if the Hulk is a big part of the script. would they go after the other guy who played banner? I myself wanna see another Hulk movie but after Avengers.
btw guys i need to know the motorcycle in Wolverine what year make and model is it anyone know?
Also in the early Cap comics do they ever mention his parents?

Well Im glad they are going to treat the eventual sequel with serious thought and not just cash-in with a crappy sequel. Edward and Louis are so awesome for having such respect and love for the Hulk.

The sequel really should come out in 2012 with the Avengers. Edward Norton probably wont be in the Avengers that much so they could film the Incredible Hulk sequel without having to diminish Bruce Banner's role in either movie. Edward can also perform the motion capture for the Hulk for both movies at the same time. And if the Hulk sequel doesnt do the best at the box office, the Avengers movie's (hopefully) large intake at the box office will make up for it.

I think the Hulk sequel should have a villain who is been influenced by the Leader and not have the Leader himself so they can have the Leader as the big villain in the background pulling the strings. Another reason it could be filmed and released in 2012 after the Avengers movie is that even though Bruce gained control over the Hulk in the Incredible Hulk, maybe Loki's (possible) manipulation of the Hulk in the Avengers movie would have made Bruce want to leave the Avengers and go off to gain a new control over the Hulk so no-one else would have any control over him. Then end the Hulk trilogy with the Hulk having to fight the Leader in an epic final battle to save himself and the world from the Leader
