In a Reddit AMA, actor Tim Roth was asked whether he'll ever reprise his role as
Abomination from 2008's
The Incredible Hulk. It's been nine years and aside from
Bruce Banner and William Hurt's
Thunderbolt Ross, none of the characters from the MCU's second release have been featured in other Marvel films. With Banner highly visible in the public eye after events in
The Avengers and
Age of Ultron, one would think that
The Leader or
Betty Ross would have come knocking on the front door of
Avengers Tower.
While Betty's absence is a bit of a head-scratcher,
The Leader aka
Mr. Blue is probably still in
S.H.I.E.L.D./U.S. government custody as witnessed in
The Avengers prelude tie-in comic book,
Fury's Big Week. Similarly,
Abomination was referenced as being in
S.H.I.E.L.D. custody during the first season of
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and is also presumable now in U.S. government custody. They might even be somewhere on
The Raft underwater prison featured in
Captain America: Civil War.
Whatever Blonsky's current status is in the MCU, it sounds like
Abomination will remain in limbo indefinitely. "
I don't think Marvel will ever use me again, but it would be fun," said Roth when asked about reprising the role.
Perhaps it has something to do with Universal Pictures still holding distribution rights for any solo
Hulk films or perhaps Marvel wants you to forget that
The Incredible Hulk exists and that Edward Norton originally played Banner before Mark Ruffalo.
