Robert Downey Jr. Confirms Mickey Rourke NOT the Crimson Dynamo in Iron Man 2

That’s right folks the rumor mill is spitting out more information today as Robert Downey Jr. confirms that actor Mickey Rourke will not be playing the Crimson Dynamo in Iron Man 2.

When asked if Mickey Rourke would instead be playing Whiplash, Robert had this to say “I can neither confirm nor deny that,” said Downey. “Or maybe it’s some semblance of both. Here, I can tell you everything about the story except I won’t give away the ending. The nerd stuff is top-drawer security.”

Sounds like any other questions that Robert was asked, or will be asked, is also top security as his answer is pretty vague. Mickey Rourke has not officially signed on to playing any role in Iron Man 2 as of yet. The actor however has been reported as saying “I would bring all I could bring to Iron Man 2” that is of course if he gets officially signed onto the movie.

No news has surfaced yet on who will in fact be the main villain in the upcoming block buster Iron Man 2. Who ever Jon Favreau picks to play the main villain is fine by me. I was skeptical about Iron Man when I first heard the news of Jon taking the reins. But since I saw the film and realized how brilliant of a job Jon did with the first installment that makes me trust Jon and his decision on who ever he showcases as the main villain in the next installment. Here’s to seeing another quality blockbuster movie in Iron Man 2.

Sony Chiba would have been a good choice if this movie was made 20 years ago. I say Collin Chou for the Mandarin. For those of you who don't know him he plays the warlord in Forbidden Kingdom with Jet and Jacky.

I really hope they are not seriously considering Rourke as Mandarin.
TheColonel

I think they should hold the mandarin until the third movie. I'd like to see either crimson dynamo or maybe a villian from spiderman or fantastic four books
ElBeaster
ElBeaster - 2/4/2009, 7:23 PM
I hope for the Avengers movie that Iron Man uses his Hulkbuster armor to beat the Hulk. That'd be cool to see.
Kalabog
Kalabog - 2/4/2009, 7:24 PM
I also hope they are not seriously considering Rourke as Jim Rhodes!

Kidding aside I think Colin Chou does look awesome as the Mandarin. My personal choice was John Lone (that guy on the Rush Hour 3 and the Last Emperor). As long as they don't make him look like Ming the Merciless its fine with me. I believe in this economic-tech age bad guys can also look cool and sophisticated -- not stereotyped. That makes him a worthy opponent not only for Ironman but also for Tony Stark and his Industry.

My suggestion was Ken Wantanabe; the guy who was thought to be Ra's Al ghul in the beginning of Batman Begins. He looks the part.

my vote for the mandarin would be Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa or collin chou

Forgive me but as i was channel flipping i came across Mickey Rouke on the View. Gave in and watched it. He mentioned that he hopes the financial issues will be resolved because he really wants to be involved, but apparently MARVEL only offered him 250K.

I just hope the SLJ is back to be M**ther F**kin' Nick Fury, since anyone they could ever try to replace him just simply won't do. He is the M**ther F**ckin' Agent of Shield, B**ch! Marvel will reap the benefits of satisfying the real consumers, namely us, if they pull off the credible movie universe. I mean, if the Marvel Movie Universe or MMU continues to have growth and keeps building off of the plot threads or character interductions and inclusions, is handled with respect to the source material but is grounded in the "how would this work for real" mentality and includes what is considered by the majority of us, the fans, as canon, then most of us will buy into it. Hopefully then we can see some other B and C list characters brought to life or dare I say, get thier own movies.

I agree with Elbeaster I think Ken Watanabe should play the Mandarin. If Mickey Rourke gets the role I am fine too. Anytime a good actor gets a part in a comic book adaptation I will not complain
parascythe
parascythe - 2/5/2009, 2:57 AM
250k only? will mikey bite?

so talent fees are for auction/bidding like ebay?

those who wanted the project has to "buy it now"?

i hope they really allot funds for this project...

thank god that was a very bad choice for the next villan he fought a freaken robot in the first movie. I want to see the mandarin I feel like that would be the logical choice.
WebSlinger22
WebSlinger22 - 2/5/2009, 10:20 AM
I like the Mandarin for the next movie as well and I agree Sonny Chiba would fit the part...But we do NEED Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury-am I a bad guy for saying that???
loganoneil
loganoneil - 2/5/2009, 11:03 AM
My nomination IF the Mandarin is to be the next villian in Iron Man II - 'DONNIE YEN'. The man:

1. acts
2. can look the part (bad-assed)
3. has WICKED martial arts skillz!

... and 'YES' WebSlinger22, you are a bad guy for saying that we 'NEED' SLJ for Fury - if the f#ck is being a greedy little prick, I say DUMP HIS OVER-RATED @SS and get a replacement (I don't think Lawrence Fishburn is doing anything at the moment...)

'nuff said.

Anybody who has the ability to get more money for thier job, will. Thats capitalism. I am not mad at actors for trying to get as much as they can, cause not everyone is a Tom Hanks. I am sorry you are a communist loganeil. Lawrence Fishburn can't be Nick Fury if my fantasy dream of him being cast as Moses Magnum or Apocalypse is to come true. I want to see Morpheus guy as a villian. Despite your socialist agenda I agree with your Manderin choice but that just furthers my opinion of you, comrade.
loganoneil
loganoneil - 2/5/2009, 2:42 PM
Uh "comrade" Legendary, CAPITALISM works both ways - if the studio doesn't feel like paying an actor, or if they think he's not worth the price he's asking for, they just get another guy in to do it for cheaper (and who knows, possibly better...). That's the basis of a truly 'free-market' economy. When outside influences try to peddle their opinions and put 'the fix' in so that only one person can have the job, that perverts the idea of 'true' capitalism and totally corrupts the system (your avatar's actions during the past 8 years is a PRIME example of this - can you say 'Halliburton'? I know you can...).

Just because SLJ is your wet dream for Nick Fury, doesn't mean it's written in stone. Like I said before, if little princess is being a b!tch and throwing a temper tantrum because she didn't get enough bling, she shouldn't be catered to and coddled. Little princess should realize this is business (pure and simple), and if she doesn't like the money - oh well, there's always a 'next guy' in tinsletown willing to take it. Let's face it, as far as 'acting' is concered, SLJ IS a 'one-trick-pony' - how many different ways can one play 'angry guy'?) Acting is just another JOB (be it a potentially better paying one). For that kind of money, people like SLJ and Christian Bale should thank their f#cking-lucky stars they are fortunate enough to do what they do and get paid the indecent gobs of money that they get!! Those astronomical salaries are one of the main reasons why movies 'break-even' points are so sky-high now. Be grateful and quit yer b!tchin'!

Rourke should play Nick Fury!!! Screw Samuel"I'm in everything"Jackson! Sammy was in IM for all of 10 seconds AFTER the credits! He's not essential! It's all about IM and the Avengers!!! That's what fills the theater seats! If Marvel feels the need to replace him(Ultimate version), Dennis Haysbert would be an excellent choice. I am starting to like the idea of Rourke playing 616 Nick Fury though!
Andy Lau would make a great Mandarin.

I don't care what character Rourke plays as long as he has some classic lines like this one.
