Storyboard artist, Federico D'Alessandro, has uploaded his Iron Man 3 animatics, that features scenes with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Rhodey (Don Cheadle), and Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley). That animatic with Trevor is the most tantalizing. As you remember, Tony figures out that the Mandarin is in Miami and he confronts this supposedly nasty villain. But, there's a twist! The man who has appeared on television as the Mandarin is actually a British actor with a substance abuse problem, named Trevor Slattery. Trevor, was hired by Aldrich (Guy Pearce) to pose as the terrorist mastermind, the Mandarin.

The last time we see Trevor, he seems to be enjoying his fame, basking in the attention as he is hauled off to jail through a an angry crowd of onlookers. But, originally the plan was to have Trevor show up at the impounded oil drilling platform. The location used throughout the climactic battle. There, Trevor comes up to a group of henchmen, that have Tony and Rhodey surrounded. What happens next? You'll have to watch the animatic below to find out.

Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 3″ pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Iron Man 3 was directed by Shane Black, from a screenplay written by Drew Pearce. The film opened in theaters May 3, 2013. It stars: Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark), Gwyneth Paltrow (Virginia Potts), Don Cheadle (Col. James Rhodes), and Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin.

Why not have him die? They already butchered the character so why not kill him off?

@DudeGuyMan - I don't know how they could possibly have that happen without being ridiculous. Unless Thanos or Loki mind control Trevor and give him alien teck so that he is more like the real Mandarin but that would be ridiculous and forced.

Let's just face the reality that the Mandarin as a character was completely butchered and destroyed. they would have to come up with something crazy to redeem it.

All in all this really wasn't that bad of a movie.It just wasn't as ground breaking as Iron-man 1 and Avengers.To me I'd give it a 3 out of 5.

I think this scene might make a bit more sense if we saw the entire animatics. Still, it would have been an interesting alternative take, but I do like the fact that he survived in the end.

did not like the mandarin "twist" but i liked the trevor character. It shows kingsley acting ability. If only trevor was not posing as mandarin and had 5 more mins of showtime he would of stole the entire movie.

@DudeGuyMan

Thats true, though Killian revealed himself being The Mandarin to Stark, as far as the public and world know, Trevor is The Mandarin since it was him and his image shown making the threats.

Who's to say that even the Ten Rings organization was in on the scam, throughout the film it looked as if the soldiers and terrorist feared Trevor when he would show up as The Mandarin, so they may truly believe he is their leader and may break him out of jail.

Now with an entire terrorist organization backing him, Trevor can continue his ruse and have anything and everything he wants.

I think this would've been a better fitting after credits for the movie:

Some time later, Trevor is in prison with inmates afraid of him thinking he was The Mandarin. At night, the prison gets attacked by the Ten Rings organization breaking him out. Trevor is confused by whats going and they take him back the set where he made his television threats.

Trevor still confused about everything and is about to say something when a man tells him " he is safe and his soldiers are awaiting their orders ", he now understands whats happening and hand him his Mandarin clothing.

He walks slowly towards his throne as soldiers are kneeling to him, as they pronounce " LONG LIVE THE MANDARIN ", pan the camera up slowly showing Trevor sitting as he was in the movie poster while giving a small deep chuckle...

Trevor truly is The Mandarin now :]

Probably because the film is still fresh is people's mind

If Thor were to pull something similar, they'd move onto that

Marvelites are going to keep bringing up Affleck until the film is released, and probably afterwards too if he doesnt meet the ridiculous expectations set by fanboys

@3Dwitchhunt

Agreed!!! The movie doesn't have any high points and I think if Avengers didn't influence this movie, it wouldn't of done that great.

Their really isn't no way Trevor could come back in Avengers or any other movies without being some kindve of comic relief, which wouldn't be a good idea
