IRON MAN 3 Opens To $13.2M Internationally; Tom Hiddleston Teases THOR: THE DARK WORLD

Fed up of box office predictions? Well, we now know that Iron Man 3 has opened to $13.2 million overseas in a select few locations; a great start for the Marvel Studios threequel. Meanwhile, Tom Hiddleston says that the Thor: The Dark World trailer shows us only the "tiniest sneak peek".

Deadline reports that Iron Man 3 has gotten off to a strong start overseas after opening in just 12 countries yesterday (that's around 23% of the overseas market). Apparently, it's "already seeing grosses far above Iron Man 2 and in some cases even The Avengers". After breaking records in Taiwan and The Philippines, the Shane Black helmed movie even went on to beat Earth's Mightiest Heroes in France! The $13.2 million is made up of France ($3.0M), Italy ($2.1M), Australia ($3.4M), Taiwan ($1.4M), Philippines ($1.5M), New Zealand ($600K) and its debut in Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Switzerland, Belgium, and The Netherlands. Iron Man 3 opens in the US next week, but is released in most other international territories over the course of today and tomorrow. At this rate, analysts are already predicting an eventual worldwide cume of over $1 billion.

In other news, ET Online caught up with Tom Hiddleston at the Los Angeles premiere for Iron Man 3 and he revealed that what we've seen in the teaser trailer for Thor: The Dark World doesn't even begin to scratch the surface and shares his thoughts on why fans can't get enough of Loki.

it's Marvel decision, not Disney.

... and people who thinks "Marvel" will stop making them after this one...no, don't think so...too much of a cash cow for them...

that doesn't mean we won't get like a few years break after IM3.
There is whole Marvel word up there to be built.
So many character. Not only Iron Man.

Iron Man 3 has to much May competition to make a billion in my opinion

Star Trek Into Darkness
Hangover Part 3
Fast 6
Great Gatsby

don't think so. Marvel have all the creativity here. Disney just distribute those movies. There are some rules, yeah. It must be kid friendly, rated PG 13, not R. That's why you won't get Punisher movie anytime soon.

Sorry but if Disney says make more IM, Marvel has no choice. That's the downside to being a wholly owned subsidiary.

I sort of agree BrotherStarofMABMindz. Star Trek should make a good deal of money and will steal alot of revenue from IM3. Early reviews say it's good but not great. After Hangover 2, I think that movie is done. Fast 6, I'm not sure who watches those types of movies anymore. The Great Gatsby looks great. I hope this movie does well. I think Leo will be up for an Oscar.

they don't have to push it. they can make trillions of dollars relaying on some other characters.

@shelbz
"wholly owned subsidiary" - really ? It's not like Disney eat them for breakfast.

I also feel MCU movies are gonna make significantly more Box Office gross this time forward. And thank THE AVENGERS for that. Hell, Thor might be close to it.

There was no doubt in anyone's mind that iron man 3 would make a ton of money, I'm excited too see this cause iron man is still my favorite marvel movie. If marvel loses RDJ as iron man then marvel will suffer cause he is iron man.

Glad to see its doing well but hopefully Marvel don't pull anymore dumb twists like that for anymore of their films; there's such a thing as taking creative liberties but that just takes the cake...

I agree they should move on to different characters. Each successful franchise character should warrant a trilogy plus Avengers films. If not it would get to a point where Marvel has 3 then 4 then 5 films a year and that could over saturate the genre.

Does anyone know why these American blockbusters open up internationally first before opening in america? Pardon my ignorance but I just dont get why they do it that way.

They shouldn't push Iron Man at the expense of other characters otherwise people will get bored. Someone else needs to step up to the challenge.

The only way the market gets saturated is if a bad product is put out on the market.

I remember when people were worried about oversaturation of the market when Green Lantern flopped and failed in year where Green Hornet, Priest, and Dylan Dog were released.

The next year Avengers broke records.

Sorry to say that IM3 was awful.

Remember the Fantastic Four movie where Galactus turned out to be a dust cloud? Or in JJ Abrams Superman script where Lex Luthor was a Kryptonian? Yeah, IM3 joins that list of doing something that is so stupid and suck a [frick]ing waste and also a broken promise made in IM1 that frankly, it makes me wish Iron Man was done as a movie character.
