Samuel L. Jackson Thinks IRON MAN "Might Work" Without RDJ.

Samuel L. Jackson thinks “ fickle” audiences will accept another actor playing Iron Man if Robert Downey Jr. ever hangs up the suit, saying that “it might work.” Check it out...

“Robert’s a great guy. We love having him around,” Jackson told Yahoo! Movies UK whilst promoting new movie ‘Turbo’. “He’s an integral character in those stories. [It] wouldn’t have been the same without him. But you know… Marvel is Marvel, things happen. And audiences are fickle too. At some point, if Robert decides he’s not going to do it, and they put somebody else inside that Iron suit… you know, it might work.” No one knows for sure yet what Marvel will do when Robert Downey Jr. gives up being Iron man, but it has been strongly hinted that they would just recast the role in a similar fashion that they do with James Bond. Fans are still divided on the subject of Downey being recast, but Marvel will just keep putting out movies meaning they may need to recast him at some point. But as Samuel L. Jackson pointed out, “They changed War Machine, nobody noticed.”

it COULD work, Ironman = RDJ at this point so to just dethrone him and have confidence in a new gu is not guaranteed success

it would have to be an awesome performance by someone else

I'd much rather they put Cheadle in the suit than recast Tony. It's in line with the comics, it's someone the audience already knows, and RDJ could STILL appear as Tony without doing stunty stuff. He could even wear the suit for the climax if need be. He had really minimal stuff to do for the last 45 minutes of Avengers.

He's right. It could and it well in the future. But if you guy(s) don't give the new 'actor' a chance, it won't.

I expect when Iron Man gets recast, the same backlash that happened to Affleck will happen to the new actor.

No, we don't NEED another Iron Man movie, but of course we'll get one.

Also:

“They changed War Machine, nobody noticed.”

Baloney! It STILL bothers me when Cheadle shows up in IM2.

Yeah yeah, it can work, etc etc. Of course. It's just not going to be something that's going to REALLY excite too many people in the audience. RDJ is a HUGE draw for me. Of course I'll see a new Iron Man movie with someone else. Most likely not in the theater. If the trailer doesn't do much for me, then I will probably wait for HBO.

Marvel should go with the James Bond route. But I think Marvel shouldn't make another solo Iron Man film for a decade.

I want to see Dr. Strange, Black Panther, Inhumans, Ms. Marvel, Heroes for Hire, Nova, Daredevil, etc. Oh so many possibilities.

Long Live the MCU!

well RDJ already signed for Avengers 2 and 3 so we will be seeing him for awhile still so no recast is necessary at this point

RDJ is Iron Man for Avengers 2 and 3. Avengers 3 is a really long time away. I personally wouldn't mind not seeing an Iron Man 4 a decade away. Marvel has everything planned and I love it.

The general audience will get over it. If Bond, Bats, Spidey, and Supes can still make bank w/ different faces playing them, then so can Iron Man - who is now a universal name.

"Shane THE HACK Black"

This is REALLY tired. It's one thing if you don't like what he did with the story. He's in NO WAY a hack.

Marvel has thousands of other characters to play with. If Robert doesn't want to be Iron Man anymore, use a different character. No need to replace him or kill off Tony. Just simply make a movie with another hero

"but it has been strongly hinted that they would just recast the role in a similar fashion that they do with James Bond"

Strongly hinted? You mean when Kevin Feige flat-out said they will go the 'James Bond' route with Iron Man?

Bit more than a hint :)

People really need to understand the difference between "bad movie" and "movie I didn't enjoy".

RDJ set a high standard for Iron Man/Tony Stark.
Sean Connery set the standard for James Bond.
Like Bond..the character on film will go on with others actors, some good some not so good.
Iron Man is here to stay.

I agree with 0megaDaGod and sameoldthing, Iron Man was around long before Robert Downey Jr and will be around long after him. Dont get me wrong, Robert IS the Sean Connery of the franchise, he will cast a long shadow over the role, but new actors will come along and make the role their own

STOP SAYING THIS CRAP THAT RDJ IS THE ONLY IRON MAN, so according to your logic, when he dies, Iron Man movies can never be made again...what crap!

Ill admit I would love to see Robert do one final Iron Man to go out on a high note, and of course play the role in Avengers 2 and 3, but then go for a break, maybe a 6-10 year break, cmon, James Bond disappeared for 6 years in the early 90s, came back as successful as ever then. BUT when Iron Man does return, DONT have the next actor do a "RDJ", he better make the role his own

AND NO REBOOTS, treat it like the comics, RDJ's run in the role is like a certain run of the comics and then a new actor brings a new spin to it and its a whole new run of Iron Man movies, but its all in the same continuity
