Scribe Drew Pearce Talks IRON MAN 3 & RUNAWAYS

Commenting on what to expect from Iron Man 3, in which he co-wrote, screenwriter Drew Pearce also vaguely shares what he foresees for Marvel Studios' delayed-Runaways adaptation!

Amid San Diego Comic-Con 2012, Girl Gamer caught up with British screenwriter Drew Pearce, the co-writer of Marvel's Shane Black-helmed Iron Man 3 movie. Initially sharing how he landed that gig and what to expect, Pearce also dotted on another Marvel project he penned; the delayed Runaways big-screen adaptation.

"I won it in a competition," Drew Peace joked when asked how he landed Iron Man 3. "I made a TV show in the U.K. called 'No Heroics'," he asserts, "which was about off-duty superheroes and Marvel liked that. So I wrote the adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan's 'Runaways.' And although that's not being made yet, and hopefully it will be soon, that's how I got [Iron Man 3]. I met Shane Black, which is a legend, and that's how it began. And that was a year-and-a-half ago...these things are big and take a long time"

After Girl Gamer's interviewer prompted more from him regarding Runaways, Pearce said that, "[Iron Man 3] will be so exciting because it's so big, and Runaways; what would be so exciting about it is I've loved that comic book since the day it came out. And I think Brian K. Vaughan is pretty much a genius" He then declared, "truthfully, I'd do anything to get that movie on the big screen," before joking "not 'anything,' but quite a lot."

When questioned about his dream cast for the project, Pearce then offered "honestly, the most boring answer is probably the true one which is, to a degree, [going] with unknowns. And maybe it's the parents themselves that would [get] bigger names. What's most important with that movie is that the feel is as right as possible. I think it's a long careful casting job that'll be tricky, but hopefully amazing in the end."

Moving back to Iron Man 3, in regards to the film's tone, Pearce says "It's a huge global-feeling movie and it absolutely puts Tony Stark and Iron Man through a bunch of stuff they've come nowhere near before."

Described as a “technological crisis thriller,” set in the world of international war, arms & terror, Marvel Studios' “Iron Man 3” stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Andy Lau, Ashley Hamilton, James Badge Dale, with Sir Ben Kingsley and Jon Favreau. Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”) takes over directorial duties from Jon Favreau, who helmed the first two “Iron Man” films. Principal photography will occur primarily in North Carolina and China. And “Iron Man 3” is set for release in May 3, 2013.

Shane Black is awesome! Nuff said!

A runaways movie could work. I like how he says go with unknowns. I prefer that as long as they cast correctly. It takes me out of the movie if the star is too famous. It's like every Tom Cruise movie, I just see Tom Cruise with a different name. thank God he wasn't Iron Man!

And just to contradict myself RDJ IS Tony Stark! Lol

Runaways is my favourite comic series of all time.
It's great, it's fresh and it's just awesome.

I've been waiting for a movie for years! I hope they go ahead with it.
It's basically like the Breakfast Club with super-powers ... what's not to love?

Runaways is great. Anything BKV writes deserves many of my dollars. I'm not holding my breath for a Runaways movie though.

I really want a Runaways film!
It is one of the best comics. I think teens will relate to it better.

I also want a Cloak and Dagger film. That would fit todays society very well. So many teens are on drugs now, and I think Cloak and Dagger are great role models for those teens. It could show how horrible drugs are. Showing 2 teens overcoming those troubles, and using their abilities to save helpless teens who ran away or are on drugs could have a great impact in my opinion.

Anyone feel Runaways should be a miniseries instead of a film franchise?

I would love to see Season 1 focus on the Runaways and the Pride alone. There are just too many relationships within the group and between parents to stuff into a three hour film. Alex Wilder can die at the season's end along with the rest of the Pride.

@dgabbor

Learn the difference between trilogy and a threequel.

I said Iron Man 3 would be the best THREEQUEL not that Iron Man would be the best trilogy.

Thanks.

sorry pal marvel wont release Incrdible Hlk 2, Black Panther and Avengers in one year. Avengers 2 will be a solo movie released that year (no other Marvel studio tie-ins)Hoe are the actors suppose to be in so many places to shoot at once. Seeing as Roberts only signed on for 1 more film (im sure he will re-sign for more Avengers films and cameos and MAYBE one more Iron Man film) but eventually its gonna get old, as well as the actors, and they will nee to do something else. Focus on other series and characters (X-men, Fantastic Four, etc...)

@RamonSuarez I agree, I think a miniseries would be great, they could focus even more on the individual characters' backgrounds and it would flesh out the story more. My only concern is that there's a lot of big-budgeted effects needed (Karolina's alien form for instance) that I don't think the budget of a television series can pull off.
