Amid San Diego Comic-Con 2012, Girl Gamer caught up with British screenwriter Drew Pearce, the co-writer of Marvel's Shane Black-helmed Iron Man 3 movie. Initially sharing how he landed that gig and what to expect, Pearce also dotted on another Marvel project he penned; the delayed Runaways big-screen adaptation.
"
I won it in a competition," Drew Peace joked when asked how he landed
Iron Man 3. "
I made a TV show in the U.K. called 'No Heroics'," he asserts, "
which was about off-duty superheroes and Marvel liked that. So I wrote the adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan's 'Runaways.' And although that's not being made yet, and hopefully it will be soon, that's how I got [Iron Man 3]. I met Shane Black, which is a legend, and that's how it began. And that was a year-and-a-half ago...these things are big and take a long time"
After Girl Gamer's interviewer prompted more from him regarding
Runaways, Pearce said that, "
[Iron Man 3] will be so exciting because it's so big, and Runaways; what would be so exciting about it is I've loved that comic book since the day it came out. And I think Brian K. Vaughan is pretty much a genius" He then declared, "
truthfully, I'd do anything to get that movie on the big screen," before joking "
not 'anything,' but quite a lot."
When questioned about his dream cast for the project, Pearce then offered "
honestly, the most boring answer is probably the true one which is, to a degree, [going] with unknowns. And maybe it's the parents themselves that would [get] bigger names. What's most important with that movie is that the feel is as right as possible. I think it's a long careful casting job that'll be tricky, but hopefully amazing in the end."
Moving back to
Iron Man 3, in regards to the film's tone, Pearce says "
It's a huge global-feeling movie and it absolutely puts Tony Stark and Iron Man through a bunch of stuff they've come nowhere near before."
Described as a “technological crisis thriller,” set in the world of international war, arms & terror, Marvel Studios' “Iron Man 3” stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Andy Lau, Ashley Hamilton, James Badge Dale, with Sir Ben Kingsley and Jon Favreau. Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”) takes over directorial duties from Jon Favreau, who helmed the first two “Iron Man” films. Principal photography will occur primarily in North Carolina and China. And “Iron Man 3” is set for release in May 3, 2013.
