Kevin Feige On An End-Credit Scene For IRON MAN 3

There's been lots of rumors about this one, folks, concerning a tie-in to James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. Inside, Iron Man 3 director Shane Black and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige talk about an end-credits stinger. "I don't want to be in that theater when even two people stay behind and nothing happens."

Warned you guys there would be a lot of Iron Man 3 news today....Unless you've been living under a rock, the leak of a Deep Space Suit for Iron Man has prompted many to believe that the end-credits stinger in Iron Man 3 will have Tony Stark meet up with The Guardians of the Galaxy. That very scenario is currently playing out in the pages of Marvel Comics which I suspect was the initial source of this rumor. But the confirmed existence of concept art has lead many to believe that this rumor is indeed true. Below, Feige talks to my buddy Derrick Deane of Fandango about whether the film will even have an end-credits stinger.

On whether there's an end-credit scene attached to Iron Man 3.
Feige: It's sort of case-by-case. I mean, I don't want to be in that theater when even two people stay behind and nothing happens. I like that we've trained at least some people to stay behind and get a little reward. But it serves a different purpose. It was part of the "Hey, surprise, look. These are all connected. We're building toward something here." [Like the] shawarma [joke], which everybody knows was an idea that we came up with much, much later and shot after the premiere, just because we thought it would be fun. So it's a little faster and looser now because people know, and frankly the whole purpose of Iron Man 3 is to say these characters can exist successfully on their own again. But, as I said, I don't want to be there when nothing happens.

On the physical challenges the actors face in the film.
Shane Black: Everything involving the suits flying. Everything is either wires or you've gotta take forever to rig somebody or it's invisible. So there's a guy on wires and he gets hit by this invisible thing that throws him backwards. You have to match everything and nothing is there. In the editing room, it’s constantly vexing. On Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, we'd show up and say, "Okay, we're doing an action scene. The car crashes. Where do we go?" You couldn't do that [on this]. You couldn't show up on the day and say, "Okay, he jumps off the tower and the building explodes, let's begin." You had to have it so meticulously planned in advance. The invisibility thing for me was the most daunting thing.

Now Feige doesn't outright say there's no end-credit scene. His answer is more saying he doesn't want to be there the day there's a Marvel Studios film that doesn't have an end-credits scene. Maybe that will come in Iron Man 3, maybe it will occur in another Marvel film. We'll just have to wait and see when the film hits theaters May 3rd.

Based on Warren Ellis' Extremis storyline and following the box-office shattering events of Marvel's The Avengers, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) has become the target of global terrorist The Mandarin (Sir Ben Kingsley) who has secretly been the mastermind behind most of the tragedies in Tony's life. Isolated from his fellow Avengers, Tony will have to devise his most advanced armor yet if he hopes to save the woman he loves, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). Standing beside Tony as he takes on Mandarin's villainous allies and Ten Rings subordinates will be War Machine James Rhodey (Don Cheadle) who was conspicuously absent during the Chituari invasion in New York. Based on a screenplay by Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) and Drew Pearce (Godzilla, Sherlock Holmes 3).
