From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton, "John Carter of Mars" is a sweeping action adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). Based on the classic sci-fi novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the film tells the story of John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter discovers that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

When the movie starts...he is John Carter of Earth. As the trailer hinted at. He earns the title and becomes John Carter of Mars.

Intruder

Your understanding of gravity as it relates to strength is way off. He is not stronger because there is less gravity. He can only jump higher, throw things further, or run a little faster because there is less gravity.

I wish this becomes a huge hit.

I really like the design of Woola for the film. I do wish the green martians were physically beefier though, not only because I pictured them that way in my head, and Frank Frazetta painted them that way, but because it would have made them look less similar to Avatar's Na'Vi. I do like that the tusks aren't in their mouths as previously depicted though, as they wouldn't be able to talk that way.

I am surprised that they didn't make the red martians RED, though. Or the planet, like in the poster. But I guess a bunch of body paint wouldn't have looked good.

I am worried about the casual audience not realizing the character's history and influence in pop-culture, and that they might just dismiss it as derivative.

Oh, and to add, I also like the Great White Ape's designs.

@rsahadi please read Intruder's comment carefully again. He couldn't, like you said "jump higher, throw things further, or run a little faster because there is less gravity" if he hadn't been raised in earth's heavy gravity. Intruder never said he suddenly grew in strength. He is saying that he has always been stronger than a Martian, like any human would.

Why is there a gravity debate going on? There are giant Gorilla Hippos in the movie.
