The debate of who should be in the Justice League movie is one if the hottest topics of discussion at the moment. Below I entail who I believe should make up the roster in the upcoming movie and why they should be in it.
1. Batman
Obviously Batman is gonna be in the Justice League. But just for arguments sake, what if he wasn't? The dark knight is a pivotal member of the iconic superhero team. He is the most known member, aside from maybe Superman. Not only that, but he is also the only non-powered hero on the team. This brings a special feeling to the team as you watch Batman hang with all these overpowering beings, and not only that, but being argueably the coolest member on the team. Simply put, Batman is a member that is just needed in the Justice League.
2. Superman
With all the rumors that Warner Bros. is killing off the character that started their shared universe in Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice, I am going to argue why that would be a horrible idea. The Justice League is synonomous with the Justice League. When most people think of the Justice League they see Batman and Superman standing in front of other heroes facing down some world wide threat. He is essentially the big guns of the team and is able to give the team that needed push against big threats like Darkseid. Also, I think that killing him off this early on eliminates most of the emotions we felt when reading the Death of Supermman story. I think they need to save that storyline for a further solo movine and allow Superman to be at the forefront when Earth's Mightiest Heroes finally join together.
3. Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman is also up there as one of the most iconic comic characters, and she is definately the most iconic female superhero. I believe that her past will be hinted at in her small part in
Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice and then fully revealed in the Justice League movie. Her character, much like Superman, provides the team with some muscle. Not only that, but she is a trained warrior who uses the skills she was taught on Themiscyra to deadly effect. She is not only eye candy for the male audience members, but is a needed part in the Justice League as she provides the team with many skills that help them out in the good fight.
4. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)
The argument of which Green Lantern should show up is one of the most heated. I think that it should be Hal Jordan simply because he was the first human Green Lantern. Giving that title to another character in the fledgling universe would be sacrilege. While I do agree that John Stewart would be cool, Hal just has so many more storylines they could adapt. He also adds a bit of comedy to the otherwise serious characters DC is establishing. His cocky attitude is a direct contrast to the humble one of Superman, and to a lesser extent The Flash. I think in order to do this, they need to reboot the character. I think it would be so cool to see a proper Hal Jordan standing next to the likes of Batman and Superman. This also gives them the option of bringing in John Stewart when the actor protraying Hal's contract is almost up. However, I must admit that Hal is my favorite character in comics, so I might be a bit bias.
5. The Flash (Barry Allen)
This is also an argued point in the fight for who should be on the roster. I think that it should be Barry Allen because his dynamic with Hal Jordan is one of the coolest in comics. He is the original modern Flash (not forgetting Jay Garrick) and most stories about the Flash revolve around him. While I do think they should use Wally eventually, I think they should do what Marvel is doing with the Winter Soldier, and have him replace Barry when the actor playing Barry's contract is almost expired. Most people argue that he is already in a show. While I will watch the show, most of the General Audience does not, and they will not be confused by having the same character on TV and the silver screen. And those fans that do watch the show will know enough about the situation to tell the difference between the two Flash's. They would also run into a similar situation by using Wally because people would say it's the same character just with a different name.
6. Aquaman
I think that Warner Bros. is having Aquaman show up in
Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice to eliminate that misconception of his character before giving him a big role in Justice League. Aquaman brings a regal presence to the team that only Wonder Woman can match. I think they will utilize him much like Marvel does with Thor, except make him much more bada**. He is almost as strong as Superman, and as stated by Zack Snyder himslef, able to pierce Superman's skin with the Trident of Poseidon. I believe that if used correctly, Warner Bros. can make Aquaman one of the coolest heroes on the team.
7. Cyborg
Somewhat controversially, the character of Cyborg was recently promoted to the Justice League. I think it would be cool if they had his character hsow up in the first couple Justice League movies, and then having him spin off into a Teen Titans movie, which would be reason to make him leader over Nightwing. He could use his experience from th Justice League to make the Teen Titans just as formiddable as the League itself.
8. Martian Manhunter
Martian Manhunter was booted out of the 7 founding members in the New 52 reboot. However, his character is just too cool to not use in a movie. He has all the powers of Superman, plus telepathy and shape-shifting. It would be a cool dynamic for him to be introduced in the movie as a prisoner of the U.S., much like in the Justice League animated series, and then watch his character adapt to human society. They could show him evolve to the point where he commands the Justice League from the Watchtower, the League's head-quarters in space. I just think that to leave Martian Manhunter out of the first Justice League movie would be a disgrace to this awesome character.
Honorary Mention: Captain Marvel/ Shazam
With the casting of the Rock as Black Adam, much talk has been about whether the upcoming Shazam (ugh!) movie will be in the same universe as the Justice League. I think that to exclude him would be downright foolish. He is such a cool and interesting character, and to see his childish personality with the grown up members of the League would be hilarious. He would also add an interesting dynamic with Superman. Though the two aern't much alike (sort of), DC gained his character by sueing Fawcett Comics, saying he was too much like Superman. I think with the right casting this character can be a bright light in an otherwise dark universe.
So there you have it, who I think should be in the Justice League. Comment if you agree or disagree. Tomorrow or Friday I will be righting an article on who I think should play these characters, so feel free to share your thoughts on that as well. Hasta la vista!
