Guillermo del Toro Talks JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK And Connections To DCU/DCTV Projects

Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro reveals that he's still working on Justice League Dark/Dark Universe and reveals that Warner Bros. are keeping their properties separate before bringing them together. What does this mean for Constantine? Read on for details...

We'll hopefully learn a lot more about Warner Bros.' plans for the DC Cinematic Universe at their panel tomorrow, but for now, Guillermo del Toro (who will soon start work on Pacific Rim 2) has offered an update on Dark Universe. "I'm still working on it," he told Superhero Hype at this weekend's San Diego Comic-Con. "Sandman doesn’t figure in the Dark Universe. We have Deadman, we have the Demon, we have Swamp Thing, we have Zatana, we have Constantine, but DC and Warners have been very clear that they are trying to keep those properties separate so when the time comes they can unite them, once they know they’re quantifiable. Batman, Superman, Green Lantern… everyone eventually will come together. Right now, they’re allowing us independence." Wait a second! Does that mean that each of the upcoming DC Comics movies will be set in their own universe? It kind of makes sense that they would take that approach. After all, had Green Lantern been shown to take place in the same world as The Dark Knight or Man of Steel, Warner Bros. would not be forced to try and retcon that movie out of existence as Marvel did to some extent with The Incredible Hulk. In truth, del Toro probably isn't in the loop to their goings on though, so maybe it's best to not read too much into that.

The site then went on to ask the director how NBC's Constantine series has impacted his plans for the movie. Well, just as we've been told that Gotham isn't a prequel to Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and neither Arrow or The Flash will be joining the Justice League, it sounds as if that series will also be its own thing.

"I had that conversation when the Constantine show was pitched. I said, ‘Do I have to have continuity with that?’ and they said, ‘No, feel free to continue the way you’re going."

What do you guys think about these comments? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts on del Toro's latest Justice League Dark/Dark Universe update in the usual place!

Shazam is a perfect segue into DC's mystic side, but GDT will never get around to this.

When do you guys think they'll release the next part of the Trinity photo? It's been a day since the Batman reveal. I highly doubt GDT will be able to do it any time soon, but who knows?

If anyone wants to make a small article on this, Gadot's looking fairly bulked for BvS in this tweet.

I really want to see Justice League Dark being one of the 2019 movies. If I'm not mistaken Sandman has worked with John in the past. I'm talking about the Justice Society Sandman not the Sandman from Vertigo comics. I really hope when this movie is made Dr. Fate will be in it too.
