All signs point to producer Dan Lin taking charge of the DC Extended Universe in this new Warner Bros. Discovery era, and it certainly sounds like he's a fan. Very nearly handed the keys to the kingdom back in 2008 when he was overseeing George Miller's Justice League Mortal, Lin is clearly someone David Zaslav feels has the potential to be the DCEU's Kevin Feige.
It's not like he could deliver anything worse than the rocky journey we've spent the past decade embarking on, but it also appears Lin may be the last person Zack Snyder fans will want to see in the top job.
Recently, we've been hearing rumblings that the current Warner Bros. regime is having serious regrets about giving into fans and releasing the "Snyder Cut" of Justice League. The perception is that the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign was made up of bots and bullies, and the movie debuting on HBO Max gave in to a toxic fandom in a way that's made the situation worse, not better.
This is forgetting the good many of those fans did, of course, but it appears Lin has that same thought process. In a resurfaced interview with The Ankler Hot Seat podcast from early last month, the producer looked back at nearly being put in charge of the DCEU, prompting the hosts to joke that it might have led to "those crazy SnyderVerse fans" coming after him.
Lin responded by calling Snyder enthusiasts "Autobots," suggesting he's of the opinion that most of the filmmaker's supporters are, in fact, paid-for bots (something Army of the Dead's Oscar "win" suggested may be the case, to some degree).
There's other chatter online that Lin really doesn't like Snyder, so those of you hoping that his SnyderVerse will be restored look set to be majorly disappointed.
That doesn't mean some familiar faces won't return, or that Lin intends to fully reboot this franchise. We don't really know what he has planned, though, or even if he'll accept the job.
Stay tuned for updates, Autobots!
