Crisis on Infinite Earths is easily one of the most ambitious DC Comics stories ever told, and Warner Bros. Animation is now rumoured to be working on an adaptation that will play out over three parts...

2021 was an interesting year for the DC Animated Universe; Injustice majorly disappointed, while Batman: The Long Halloween proved to be a mostly very good two-part adaptation of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's classic comic book. However, Justice Society: World War II arguably stole the show.

Now, it's looking like Warner Bros. Animation's most ambitious project to date is on the way. According to producer/film critic Matías Léorta, "DC is purportedly planning a three-part animated adaptation of Crisis on Infinite Earths, which would bring together different versions of its heroes."

While some fans will no doubt be hoping for a 100% comic accurate adaptation of Marv Wolfman and George Pérez's Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline (which ran from 1985 to 1986), an animated version presents Warner Bros. with a unique opportunity. Batman: The Animated Series kicked off the DCAU in 1992, and characters from the show and every movie and TV series that's followed could easily be included in this three-parter.

That could be epic, and telling the story over three movies is certainly an ambitious undertaking.

If we're getting an official announcement about this Crisis on Infinite Earths adaptation, it probably won't be until much later in 2022 based on past experience. Talking of next year, we have Catwoman: HuntedGreen Lantern: Beware My Power, and Battle of the Super Sons to look forward to.

An animated Infinite Crisis trilogy sounds epic. Though DC animation has been a bit hit or miss lately, fingers crossed this can be a return to form.

I've got the Crisis on Infinite Earths Box Set

But to be honest the event is kind of meh. It doesn't hold up all that well hopefully they'll improve on it for the animated movies.

Sure, why not. DC Animation has been rather lackluster as of late

@kider2 - do you watch anime? could be a reason.. its the reason why ive fallen out of favor with dc animated stuff. they are so cheap

check out demon slayer or one punch man to see what we could be getting if they put more money it these animated movies.

I've been all for any kind of adaptation with DC, they usually kill it, with some misfires here and there. There was the lackluster adaptation of The Killing Joke but I think a lot of us moved past that fairly easily and were interested to move on.

However, with another huge adaptation like Injustice, not only did they misfire. They managed to sh#t the bed and served it to us on a platter, expecting us to eat it and say thank you.

After such a debacle I am very skeptical and wary of any epic adaptation they do going forward. Seeing this as a possible future adaptation has me worried that they will f#ck it up like they did Injustice but the only thing going for it is that they use a different pair of writer and director that can do the comics justice.

Take some liberties and departures but make it make sense to the audience and don't dumb it down for kids. Make it harsh, make it coherent, and most importantly, make it faithful and true to what was written before. Doesn't mean it needs 100% shot for shot. That's not how adaptations work. But don't change it so drastic to where the only thing it has in common with the series it that it only has is the name and characters in it.

Treat the stories with just as much love as you do the characters. Don't see it as another paycheck or a way to be as different from the material as possible. See it as an opportunity for old fans to remember something they glued their eyes to the pages and new fans to experience something fresh and exciting they will want to go back and read the books for the first time.

Treat it right and treat it with respect.

IF they are doing this, they need to bring in every popular iteration of the DC universe in animated form. Fleischer Superman, the Timmverse, COTE/Doom/Flashpoint timeline, Injustice, Teen Titans, New Frontier, The New 52 animated movies, and the current lineup of DC animated movies. If you don't include basically all of them, then there's no point in doing it.

@TheMapleSyrup - Though I imagine the more older animated incarnations will either need to be silent cameos or voiced by soundalikes.

If they do it over the course of three films, I can see this being as epic as the comic was. I think the problem with Injustice is they contained it in one movie. It was high on violence and gore and low on coherency and plot. But with three movies it can give Crisis time to breathe. I approve of this.

This should be the cinematic DC Animated movie (movies). Not Superpets.

It being possibly 3 parts kind of gives me hope that they may do it well. DC animation has been hit/miss the past 2 years. Injustice was defiantly and let down and rush. I haven't read Crisis on Infinite Earths in a long time. I kind of would rather they adapted The Infinite Crisis crossover, especially with Superman Prime going HAM on the Green Lantern core and the rest of the Superhero's. Hopefully DC animated don't screw this up and also improve on some the slow parts and confusing parts of Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Hard to get excited since they've [frick]ed up so many adaptations time and time again.

Adapting it into three parts makes sense, gives them room to plan it carefully and give the fanbase all kinds of payoffs.

It would be the 2nd adaptation of CoIEs in recent years.
