Earlier this week, Guillermo del Toro confirmed a sequel for his 2013 movie, Pacific Rim, as well as an animated series to go along with the "franchise". He also mentioned other later projects he planned on working on, including Justice League Dark.
As of late 2012, del Toro began work on Justice League Dark, giving it the working title of “Dark Universe” in January 2013. From then, he has continued work on the project, stating he would finish it after promoting his other movies, such as
Pacific Rim and
Crimson Peak. However, Del Toro then stated that he was still waiting for approval for the movie from DC and Warner Bros.
Del Toro has also expressed interest in connecting the new nbc show
Constantine to JLD, as he had intended for the character to appear in his movie before the show was announced, stating:
“We talked about it at DC and Warners, and I feel confident that the two properties can exist at the same time. I think that DC is trying to create a great universe of characters, and expand it and make it clear to the audience that it’s a landscape of characters, and not just one that’s dependent on one or two characters.”
From then, however, DC has announced its other properties getting the live-action treatment to expand its "DCU", including the sequel to Man of Steel, 2016’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and also Shazam! So along with his Pacific Rim announcement, del Toro stated that he would finish up JLD after his 2015 movie, Crimson Peak.
