When it was revealed that Zack Snyder would take the helm of Man of Steel, we also learned that Christopher Nolan would serve as an executive producer. Coming off the back of The Dark Knight Trilogy, that news generated a lot of excitement among fans, and the Superman reboot was definitely marketed like it was one of Nolan's Batman movies.
Nolan's name was also attached to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Zack Snyder's Justice League, and it sounds like the two filmmakers have struck up something of an unlikely friendship (when Nolan saw Joss Whedon's cut of Justice League, he was reportedly adamant that Zack never watch it).
During a recent interview with the Straight Up podcast (via Screen Rant), Snyder revealed that he showed Nolan the IMAX version of the Snyder Cut before being asked if the two directors ever give each other notes.
"No, there’s a really cool thing that we do with each other. Which is basically, when I show him the movie, I’m like, ‘Okay, so the movie’s done so just enjoy it,'" Snyder explained. "He always says it to me, really, whenever I see Tenet or whenever I see a movie of his — which I, by the way, it’s actually better...I wanna see the movie and just watch it."
"The last thing I wanna do with Chris, and Chris is a genius, of course — the last thing I need to do is, like, have my two cents and so it actually is really liberating to be able to just go like, ‘Okay, just show me your movie because I want to get my mind blown.’"
It sounds like they have a cool friendship. and it would be pretty interesting to see what a collaboration between them might look like. Whether that will ever actually happen is another matter, especially as they're two filmmakers with a distinct vision of what their work should look like on screen.
