Zack Snyder's Justice League was released on HBO Max earlier this year to great fanfare, and while the reviews were positive, it remains unclear just how beneficial it was to the streaming service.
The filmmaker's fans are certainly happy now, though, even if it's become increasingly clear that Warner Bros. is looking to move on from the "SnyderVerse." The question is, where does that leave the Justice League in the DC Extended Universe moving forward? The 2017 theaterical version bombed, but if The Suicide Squad has proved anything, it's that a franchise can be saved by the right director.
During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, veteran DC Films producer Charles Roven was asked about his future working on these movies, and dropped a possible hint about what could be in store for the Justice League on the big screen somewhere down the line.
"If it was a Superman movie that involved Henry [Cavill], I would be involved, at least for a couple more. If it was a Batman-involved product like Batman v Superman or Justice League, I would be involved in those," he explained. "Suicide Squad, I would be involved in those, up until a certain amount. I’m not really affiliated with Aquaman. I have nothing to do with Shazam!"
But still have an affiliation with some more Suicide Squads, which I’m thrilled about. I hope James will, when he’s got some time, come back and see if he’s going to do another one of these, because he did such an amazing job," Roven continued. "I would definitely be a part of that. Probably another Justice League, although I think that’s a number of years away."
You have to believe Warner Bros. has something planned for the Justice League, but it's no great surprise that they want to leave a little more space between the last two movies before announcing anything. Right now, the backlash to any non-Snyder related project with the heroes would be...vocal.
Where would you like to see the superhero team's franchise head next?
