ZACK SNYDER'S JUSTICE LEAGUE And ARMY OF THE DEAD Oscar Wins May Have Been Rigged By Bots

A closer look at the Twitter polls held as part of this year's Academy Awards suggests that bots may have rigged the vote to make sure Zack Snyder's Justice League and Army of the Dead picked up the wins.

During this year's Oscars, the Academy attempted to increase viewership by allowing movie fans to cast their vote on social media for "Oscars Fan Favorite" and "Oscars Cheer Moment." Both were mostly meaningless as no actual awards were handed out, but two Zack Snyder-directed movies walked away with the wins: Zack Snyder's Justice League and Army of the Dead

The latter nabbing "Oscars Fan Favorite" came as a big surprise, especially after speculation that the category was only actually created to make up for Spider-Man: No Way Home being snubbed.

Regardless, The Wrap is reporting that the voting system may have been rigged thanks to Twitter bots putting their support behind Snyder. They've shared data from a hashtag analytics tracking tool and found that "the most active contributors to both polls were autonomous web programs," which "cast thousands of fake votes" for the popular filmmaker's two movies.

While not definitive, there are other indications that the vote was rigged by some #ReleaseTheSnyderCut and #RestoreTheSnyderVerse fans, including an odd jump in the number of votes. Neither the company that ran the poll nor Snyder's representatives have responded to requests for comments, though the Academy plans to stand by the results.

This not only highlights the problem with a Twitter poll like this one, but also the extreme lengths Snyder's fans are willing to go in their support of the director behind those early DCEU movies.

Do you think Zack Snyder's Justice League and Army of the Dead were deserving winners?

There is a well known thing in the news business that if your headline poses a question then the answer is always NO. So the actual question to ask is why did The Wrap write this article implying this?
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 5/13/2022, 7:01 AM
@WarMonkey - Well that doesn't seem to he the case here. The answer isn't "no". It's just stating that there is proof that it could have been rigged by bots. So technically the answer isn't "yes" or "no", but it seems obvious with this evidence that it was rigged.

The Wrap didn't imply anything. They just stated the facts and raised a question.

"They've shared data from a hashtag analytics tracking tool and found that "the most active contributors to both polls were autonomous web programs," which "cast thousands of fake votes" for the popular filmmaker's two movies."
WarMonkey
WarMonkey - 5/13/2022, 8:05 AM
@CorndogBurglar - So they posed a question and could not say yes, so the answer is no they didn't prove it. It's a nonsense article about speculation and gossip. You either have proof or you don't so you can ask "is it likely that bots were used" and that would be an opinion piece not a news stories. A news story should contain the who, what, where, when and how of an event and this article is speculation based on incomplete data with the intention of feeding a narrative that bots were used and Snyder didn't really win. It may be 100% true that he didn't receive 1 legit vote but right now it's just a guess so at best this should be an editorial assumption.

@WarMonkey -

Who - People on Twitter
What - Faking the amount of votes for Zach Snyder films
Where - on Twitter
When - During voting for these categories for the Oscar's
How - By using Twitter Bots

All of these questions are answered. There may not be 100% proof this happened. But there IS evidence. And the article isn't asking if anything was proven. It's asking if this happened, and at no point does it say it did. It makes it very clear that it isn't yet known for sure. There's no opinions going into it, so it isn't an Editorial of anything. It's stating facts. Just because the answer to the headline isn't "yes" doesn't mean this isn't news. Because the headline is posing a question, not stating a fact.

Would it make you feel better if the headline wasn't in the form of a question?

I mean, news articles get written all the time with headlines like this about allegations being made about someone. This isn't anything new and it certainly isn't expressing an opinion. It's delivering news about something that's taking place. In this case, evidence of Twitter Bots being used was found. That's it.
WarMonkey
WarMonkey - 5/14/2022, 6:48 AM
@CorndogBurglar - So a question was posed in the headline and the answer was "No, but maybe yes" in the article body. That's gossip about a speculation designed to sell a narrative that something is true that hasn't been proven.

@Drace24 - It’s a temporary hold while they do some
Research. It helps to read past the headlines.

“Twitter deal temporarily on hold pending details supporting calculation that spam/fake accounts do indeed represent less than 5% of users," Musk tweeted on Friday.

@Drace24 - He said he's going to reduce bots by putting human verification on everything. So before liking, posting, or subscribing to anything your going to have to do a human verification. Musk said he wants to make it more "fair" on the banning and free speech too. It makes no sense to ban people based on political views or free speech. Why is it that Trump is banned and Biden isn't? Twitter is too bias on who they support or it could've been bot influenced. He said that he wants to make twitter the #1 source of unbias and free speech so people can post whatever they want publicly.

OmegaDaGrodd - 5/13/2022, 7:30 AM
@mastakilla39 -

"Why is it that Trump is banned and Biden isn't?"

Donald Trump was using Twitter to try to use his title as president to destroy democracy, which I don't think Biden has done yet. Twitter wasn't built for the type of reckless endangerment Trump was creating, and I'm sure Twitter felt they were going to suffer legal ramifications for letting it continue
SpaceParanoids
SpaceParanoids - 5/13/2022, 7:31 AM
@mastakilla39 - He’s right. You can’t have a social media platform and then just selectively ban people.
And you can’t ban American politicians or commentators but allow actual terrorist grouped like ISIS to remain on the platform.
And I agree, every account should be verified.
SpaceParanoids
SpaceParanoids - 5/13/2022, 7:33 AM
@OmegaDaGrodd - No he didn’t. He did what many other politicians on both sides of the aisle have done.
He expressed his opinion. Twitter overstepped their bounds much like so many other social media platforms have done as of late,
OmegaDaGrodd
OmegaDaGrodd - 5/13/2022, 7:40 AM
@SpaceParanoids -

"No he didn’t"

Well, he most definitely did, which is how he got banned. I was there. I saw the tweets. There are definitely other politicians and talking heads that were making the same sort of dishonest, dangerous and deranged comments Trump was, but none of them were president. His craziness mixed with his title's power posed an imminent threat to democracy, incited an insurrection, and ultimately led to him getting banned. The math was pretty simple in that case
Drace24
Drace24 - 5/13/2022, 7:46 AM
@mastakilla39 - Yeah. Captcha is definitely working. Lol

Trump is banned from Twitter and Biden is not because Trump is a traitorous terrorist and Biden is not. It's that simple. I certainly have a shitload of problems with Twitter. But upholding that a violent insurrection against the government is at the very least against their terms of service is not of them.

Being Pro-Free Speech means nothing. Free speech is an abstract concept. It's not like anyone is against free speech. It always depends on what the people with the power to enforce it identify as free speech and what as a danger to it. And I'm not sure I like Musk's understanding of it. Especially if he sees no problem making Twitter a platform where spreading propaganda that leads to domestic terrorism is not just glossed over but also actively encouraged with no accountability allowed.

It's not like he isn't biased to what is and isn't permissable to say. It's just that you like his biases more.
Drace24
Drace24 - 5/13/2022, 7:47 AM
@SpaceParanoids - I don't see how that contradicts my statement that he has put that acquisition on hold.
ScaryTerry
ScaryTerry - 5/13/2022, 7:51 AM
@Drace24 - I’m certain it’s a ploy to drop the cost of the acquisition. Value on Twitter dropped almost 9 billion dollars from what I understand after the announcement.
SpaceParanoids
SpaceParanoids - 5/13/2022, 7:54 AM
@OmegaDaGrodd - So if someone is president they are allowed to say less on Twitter than anybody else?

From NBC News, these are the tweets that Twitter cited as their reason to ban President Trump:

“ In the first one, Trump wrote: “The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”

“To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.”

That was all he wrote.
Twitter banned him because of political bias and that is why Elon Musk, a Democrat said that Trump’s ban was wrong and the he would re-instate Trump.

Even Jack Dorsey admitted he was wrong.

As per the New York Post:

“It was a business decision, it shouldn’t have been,” Dorsey wrote of Trump’s ban, saying he believes that “permanent bans of individuals are directionally wrong.”

And President Trump was not the only one Dorsey banned simply because he didn’t agree with him politically. And so far many of those have been reinstated by Musk as well.
