Zack Snyder's Justice League ended with Martian Manhunter meeting with Bruce Wayne to warn him of the imminent threat Darkseid poses to Earth, but it's no secret that the original plan for this scene was for the John Stewart Green Lantern to make his presence felt at the Dark Knight's home.
Unfortunately, Warner Bros. stepped in and pushed for the filmmaker not to use the beloved hero because of their own plans plans for Stewart's live-action debut. That makes sense, because the passionate "SnyderVerse" fanbase would likely reject whoever they cast for the Green Lantern HBO Max TV series or Green Lantern Corps movie in preference of Snyder's pick.
Snyder recently revealed who he'd cast as Stewart, but it turns out the filmmaker hoped to use two Green Lanterns in this scene. As he explained at Justice Con, Stewart was set to be joined by Kilowog.
"Originally, we were going to have John Stewart and Kilowog come to the dock to see Bruce [Wayne]," Snyder confirmed. "That was the original, original idea."
Kilowog did make it into the Snyder Cut of Justice League, but only as a dead body at the feet of the corrupted Superman.
It's a shame we'll never get to see this scene, and there's no denying that Batman meeting with John Stewart and Kilowog is a much cooler concept than Martian Manhunter (no offence, J'onn J'onzz fans). With any luck, both of those characters will soon be brought to the big or small screen, so it's not like this was our only chance to see them side-by-side.
One thing we do know is that Snyder had big plans for Green Lantern in his Justice League sequels.
