DC/WB Obsession with getting a Lobo movie done and why it's another foolish move.

Why I think a WB/DC priorities are not in order.

Before I get started on this article I want to say this, I am not putting down the character of Lobo or his fanbase, I think the character is ok for comic relief and randomness. My problem with this whole deal is they are putting so much effort into this character and we have yet to see DCs big names done right on the big screen.

I mean seriously, they want to try another TV show for Wonder-Woman and not put her on the big screen? She should of had a movie years ago but yet and still nothing at all. Instead we are getting a movie for a character that is purely made for shits and giggles.

I mean they want a Lobo movie? Then rumors are they want him on Justice League film they are supposedly working on? I find this utterly ridiculous and just plain stupid and a disservice to fans who have been waiting for more important characters to hit the big screen. What purpose would Lobo serve by showing up in a Justice League film besides comic relief?

I think it's pretty obvious by now that this studio has no idea what they are doing with DC properties. This article is really more of an angry vent/outcry but still it needed to be said. I don't know about you guys and girls but I have no plans to support a Lobo film, especially knowing the bad track record of DC/WB movies.

if its done right then i will still be happy. But your right in that you would expect to see flash, WW and martian manhunter before Lobo.

Ironman is not a character made purely for Jokes. RDJ Ironman is a little bit more jokey than his comic book counterpart but still he's a fairly serious character when written well. The theme of Ironman is pretty proving that even a cocky drunk can get his life together and become a well molded superhero, and this is coming from a guy who doesn't even like Ironman.

Lobo was made to be a parody of Wolverine, he's basically DC's version of Deadpool, which is a parody of Deathstroke.

I don't mind a Lobo movie being made, but he's not a character that really adds much besides comic relief. He's a guy who killed off his entire race, he loves having sex randomly and he has a I don't give a crap attitude and is really violent.

WB has been saying they'll do WW,Flash and many other more important characters for years and now they are pushing a LOBO film? So WB way of thinking is those other DC characters outside of Superman and Batman don't have a market but LOBO does. I find that hard to believe and it's stupid way of thinking.

There is a difference between a plan and just plan random announcements. Marvel studio's has a plan, they are done with phase one of their universe/ world building. DC/WB has built basically a tone of failures besides the animated movies and Nolan's Batman universe.

It's only a matter of time before Black Panther and Dr.Strange are to happen. The rest of DC/WB so called "plans" are in development hell and have been for a very long time now.

Guardians of the Galaxy is about a talking raccoon. You obviously have never picked up a GOTG book.

Also, its getting made to set up the cosmic side of the MCU. They really are the best way to do that because they can have all sorts of other characters appear as well. Adam Warlock, Nova, etc.

I cant see a Lobo film serving the same kind of purpose, especially since the GOTG are about 6 million times more important and relevent than Lobo. We're talking about a character who was ojt of comics for years until he randomly showed up in 52. Then, poof, again. He just doesnt have the same importance as GOTG.

" Wonder Woman is much more important to the DC universe than Dr. Strange or Black Panther are to the Marvel universe"

Can you please explain that?

Iron Man is comic relief AS WELL besides being an important character. That puts him on level with JL's Wally West (Flash), not Lobo.

In the DC Universe, Wonder Woman is #3 in terms of importance behind Superman & Batman and ahead of Green Lantern and Flash, rounding out the top 5.

In the Marvel Universe, Spider-man, Iron-Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, X-Men (Wolverine, Cyclops, Magneto, Xavier....), and a bunch of other characters are more important than Dr. Strange and Black Panther.

Hence, Wonder Woman is much more important to DC than Dr. Strange & Black Panther are to Marvel.

Is that explanation enough?

Importance or Popularity?

To those here whining about Marvel's progress, and defending DC's progress.

Marvel has put out the following characters:
Iron Man
Captain America
Thor
Hulk
Black Widow
Hawkeye
SHIELD (Nick Fury, Maria Hill etc.)
Ant-Man (upcoming)
GOTG (upcoming)
Spider-Man (Cross-overs are being discussed with Sony)
--Won't count X-Men because that'll probably never cross-over.

DC has put out:
-Batman (that has ended & needs a reboot)
-Superman (upcoming)
-GL (box office bomb)

So please, don't even bother defending WB/DC on the "how many characters they have put out" front.

And the sad thing is: I grew up a DC fanboy, but WB/DC has left me no choice but to face the facts. The live-action verse is mostly a [frick]ing joke.

@SageMode

Importance & Prominence.

WW is considered a part of the "Holy Trinity" of DC along with Supes & Bats.

And although, I am clamoring for Black Panther & Dr. Strange films. They are far from being anywhere near the top 3 most important or prominent characters.

I won't make any comments on popularity. But common sense dictates that WW is more popular in the DC verse, than BP & DS in Marvel verse. Considering she gained the "Holy Trinity" status because of some of the highest DC sales over the years, with a combination of popularity & prominence.

The only thing a Lobo movie would do is the following.

1. Improve his fan base, which doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things. That's only if the movie is any good or average.

2. Just another throw anyway comic book movie like Ghostrider, Jonah Hex etc.

If DC/WB wants do indie like films why not do more Vertigo stuff then?

Like I said Lobo appeals to the Lowest Common Denominator movie viewer at best.

What contributions has Wonder Woman done that makes her more important and prominent to DC. You just said because shes apart of the Trinity of DC comics.

Besides the fact that she is the first female superhero and is part the trinity. If Batman inspires fear into criminals and Superman inspires hope into mankind, Wonder-woman is the balance between the two, she represents peace and love in the DCU, I mean that can be applied to Superman and both Batman but more so with Wonderwoman.

Whenever Superman and Batman are butting heads and the rest of the league is not getting along, she's been the one to turn things around. In some cases she is willing to do what Bats and Supes won't which is kill, that can be right or wrong depending on the readers code of morals and ethics.

She's a league more important than Lobo is.

Come on man, you're very knowledgable about comics. Im shocked that you need people to explain how important Wonder Woman is. Im not trying to be insulting, im seriously surprised by it.

CORNDOGBURGLAR

Im just trying to figure the relevance of significance. Im referring to her feats shes displayed throughout the years, didnt mean as far as her importance outside the actual stories.

Cause you can say that Black Panther is the first black superhero whos played a significant role in the Marvel Universe since his debut, as well as being a valuable member of the Avengers and whos country hes the king of is the main source for one of the most sought out and valuable substances in the entire Marvel Universe (Vibranium).

I see though.....

And I did some research......Woman In Red was the first ever comic book female superhero (1940), not Wonder Woman (1941). But yes, Lobo doesn't have any importance in a Justice League movie.

it goes Batman, Superman. all other DC properties are equal in the eyes of the mainstream public. "equal" read "meaningless"

truth hurts.

I couldn't even imagine comics without green lantern, or how one could even know about the medium of comics without knowing who green lantern was. then the movie came out and i couldn't count how many people i had to explain green lantern to.

man i never thought i'd see the day where nerds didn't want a movie about a space bounty hunter.

If you want to enjoy a movie about "The Rock" playing a parody character then by all means enjoy.

But I care about Lobo as much as I care about the piece of shit that comes out of my ass, meaning not a single [frick] is given.

Yeah the truth does hurt, because the truth of matter is DC/WB sucks when it comes to branching out to there other properties. Hell no one besides Marvel fanatics cared or even knew who "The Avengers" were until the recent movie came out. Marvel made it work and happen due to a plan and patience.
