Is DC Studios Boss James Gunn Teasing A LOBO Project For New DCU? Is DC Studios Boss James Gunn Teasing A LOBO Project For New DCU?

Speculation is running rampant that there are plans for Lobo in the new DCU after a social media post from James Gunn featuring the fan-favourite DC Comics character went viral. Read on for details...

James Gunn and Peter Safran are now in charge of DC Studios, and big changes are clearly on the horizon for the DCU. The Suicide Squad director has already teased plans to tell the "Biggest Story Ever Told," but is the Scourge o' the Cosmos part of whatever comes next?

With the recent shakeup at Twitter taking place thanks to Elon Musk's takeover, some are looking for alternative social media platforms to call home.

While Gunn is still on Twitter, he recently joined Mastodon and his first post has generated a lot of attention. That was a picture of Lobo, a fan-favourite DC Comics character fans have spent years waiting to see brought to the big screen. He's clashed with Superman and many other heroes over the years, and there were once plans for a solo outing from Transformers director Michael Bay.

While this isn't confirmation that we're going to see Lobo in the DCU, it certainly feels like a strong indication that there are plans for the anti-hero.

The timing is also interesting, especially as Aquaman star Jason Momoa recently said that, thanks to Gunn and Safran, "One of my dreams come true will be happening under their watch." We know he wanted to play Lobo once upon a time, so will he now be given the chance to do so? The Multiverse makes pretty much anything possible.

It's feasible Momoa is just excited to share the screen with Lobo as Arthur Curry, of course, as pitting the Justice League against that intergalactic bounty hunter would make for one helluva movie.

Hopefully, more details about the DCU's future will be revealed soon. DC FanDome has been scrapped and Comic-Con is a long way off, so your guess is as good as ours when it comes to when we'll get any sort of slate announcement.

@TheFireForce - Me too, but I wonder how close to Lobo they're allowed to go. I can't imagine any keezy fem lines making the cut.
Shivermetimbers - 11/9/2022, 11:54 AM
@TheFireForce - They would totally neuter the character to get him to fit mainstream audience expectations to the point that he wouldn't even be the same if they want to create a solo Lobo movie that will actually make money. I cant imagine a solo outing happening for that reason, but hopefully he can show up elsewhere and keep most of his characterization in tact.

@Shivermetimbers - I definitely see your point. I guess if fox could do it with Deadpool then I’m gonna have faith in the new dc being able to do it with Lobo.
Shivermetimbers - 11/9/2022, 12:11 PM
@TheFireForce - Hope so. Seems like a tough sell, but Lobo is so badass lets hope they make it happen.
FireandBlood - 11/9/2022, 8:59 AM
Don’t know about you guys, but I still want that Supermax movie.

@PlusUltra - RIGHT!? I was pretty excited about that movie when the script leaked.
FireandBlood - 11/9/2022, 9:01 AM
@HWestRE420 - Could be done on a low budget too, like Dredd.
Spoken - 11/9/2022, 9:03 AM
@PlusUltra - I agree, I thought they were going to do that with a low budget anyways too.

As always though executives at WB are just massively ignorant on their investments.
GhostDog - 11/9/2022, 9:05 AM
@PlusUltra - Yessir!
CorndogBurglar - 11/9/2022, 9:25 AM
@PlusUltra - Man I remember that. That's going way back. I was disappointed nothing ever came of it.
Toecutter - 11/9/2022, 9:27 AM
@PlusUltra - Hell yeah.

ImBatman4realz - 11/9/2022, 11:28 AM
@PlusUltra - I was always so stoked to see this one!! Hopefully the script gets revived somehow, and we get that Green Arrow movie.

I know people want him for Bane, but possibly Bautista as the Main Man?
MosquitoFarmer - 11/9/2022, 9:04 AM
Lobo always makes me think of step-father (who loved the character), which also subsequently and unrelatedly makes me think of Bolo.

Doomsday8888 - 11/9/2022, 9:06 AM
That would be a Dream project! :P
ObserverIO - 11/9/2022, 11:08 AM
@Doomsday8888 - Literally one day after everybody was like "Does he mean Lobo?" and yet you are the first person to mention it.
Doomsday8888 - 11/9/2022, 2:57 PM
Heh, it is what it is, fam!🤣
TheSuperMex - 11/9/2022, 9:11 AM
I would like to see Tom Hardy as Lobo.
AmazingFILMporg - 11/9/2022, 9:14 AM
Twitter is dying. Guess Gunn is trying to find Twitter alternatives to make it DC official page

Lobo is a perfect match for Gunn🤝🔥💪♥️🙏🦸💯
DCfan84 - 11/9/2022, 9:15 AM
The Main Man

JstaKIDfrmBKLYN - 11/9/2022, 9:16 AM
Honestly, Jason Mamoa is way better suited to play Lobo than Aquaman. If they cast him as Lobo too I would have zero problem with that.
dragon316 - 11/9/2022, 9:18 AM
@JstaKIDfrmBKLYN - may surprise people with there choice play lobo marvel did same thing elsa bloodstone
Urubrodi - 11/9/2022, 9:22 AM
