James Gunn and Peter Safran are now in charge of DC Studios, and big changes are clearly on the horizon for the DCU. The Suicide Squad director has already teased plans to tell the "Biggest Story Ever Told," but is the Scourge o' the Cosmos part of whatever comes next?
With the recent shakeup at Twitter taking place thanks to Elon Musk's takeover, some are looking for alternative social media platforms to call home.
While Gunn is still on Twitter, he recently joined Mastodon and his first post has generated a lot of attention. That was a picture of Lobo, a fan-favourite DC Comics character fans have spent years waiting to see brought to the big screen. He's clashed with Superman and many other heroes over the years, and there were once plans for a solo outing from Transformers director Michael Bay.
While this isn't confirmation that we're going to see Lobo in the DCU, it certainly feels like a strong indication that there are plans for the anti-hero.
The timing is also interesting, especially as Aquaman star Jason Momoa recently said that, thanks to Gunn and Safran, "One of my dreams come true will be happening under their watch." We know he wanted to play Lobo once upon a time, so will he now be given the chance to do so? The Multiverse makes pretty much anything possible.
It's feasible Momoa is just excited to share the screen with Lobo as Arthur Curry, of course, as pitting the Justice League against that intergalactic bounty hunter would make for one helluva movie.
Hopefully, more details about the DCU's future will be revealed soon. DC FanDome has been scrapped and Comic-Con is a long way off, so your guess is as good as ours when it comes to when we'll get any sort of slate announcement.
