Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige Responds To AVATAR Director James Cameron's AVENGERS Fatigue Comments
Earlier today, we reported on some comments from director James Cameron which left Marvel fans in a bit of a tizzy. However, Kevin Feige has now responded, and he seems to be taking it all in his stride...
Despite being a self-professed fan of Marvel Studios' superhero flicks, legendary filmmaker James Cameron seems to feel that they've outstayed their welcome.
During a recent interview, the Avatar director said he hopes to see "Avengers fatigue" set in at some point, seemingly in the belief that if audiences grow tired of the formula, it'll make way for other types of stories to nab some of the spotlight.
Not too surprisingly, a lot of fans had a thing or two to say about this, but what about the man most directly responsible for shaping the MCU in the first place?
Sitting down with NY Mag following an Avengers: Infinity War in LA, Kevin Feige was told about Cameron's comments, and responded in the best way possible. Here's the except in full:
“‘There are other stories to tell,’” I said, quoting Cameron, “besides, you know, hypogonadal males…’”
“Hypogonadal!” said Feige.
I continued: “‘Hypogonadal males without families doing death-defying things for two hours and wrecking cities in the process.’
” Feige sat, processing the quote. I noted that Cameron prefaced his comments by saying, “[It’s] not that I don’t love the movies. It’s just, come on, guys.”
“Uh, he loves the movies!” Feige said, a knowing grin spreading on his face. He stood up, pumping his arm. “That’s awesome! Wow, James Cameron loves our movies! That’s exciting!”
Though most seem to feel that Cameron is just blowing hot air because Marvel has taken his spot as "King of The World", Feige chooses to see the silver lining here - though there's a decent chance he did keep some thoughts on the matter to himself!
