MCU Rumor Roundup: VISION QUEST Update, THE BLONDE PHANTOM Searching For Showrunner, SCARLET WITCH's Return

We have some big MCU updates to share with you today, including news on Vision Quest, the Scarlet Witch movie, The Blonde Phantom, and a wild (false) claim about who is playing Ghost Rider. Check it out...

We're back with another MCU rumour roundup, but let's begin by debunking a pretty wild claim that's floating around on social media this weekend.

Despite a great many fan accounts claiming Barbie star Ryan Gosling has "officially" been cast as the MCU's Ghost Rider, we can tell you that's not the case. It's certainly possible he's discussed the role with Marvel Studios but, as of now, nothing has been announced or confirmed.

With that out of the way, we move on to Vision Quest. While Jac Schaeffer had been developing the spin-off, Terry Matalas (Star Trek: Picard) has since been tapped to take charge of the series which will see Paul Bettany reprise his role as the title character.

According to scooper Daniel Richtman, the plan is still for Vision's android family, including Viv and Vin, to appear in the 2026 series. That's a relief as we did wonder whether the premise - Tom King's Vision comic - has changed with the addition of a new showrunner.

Richtman has also heard that Marvel Studios has begun searching for a showrunner to take charge of the Scarlett Johannson-produced TV series, The Blonde Phantom

Taylor Swift and Sydney Sweeney have both met with Kevin Feige to discuss the role.

@MyTimeToShineH says the plan is for Chris Pratt to return as the Legendary Star-Lord "soon," and claims we'll also see a Scarlet Witch movie sooner than expected. @Cryptic4KQual backs that up by saying Marvel Studios is keen to bring Elizabeth Olsen back into the fold for the project.

Talking about her future as the character last year, Olsen said, "Specifically in the last four years, my output has been Marvel. I don’t want...it’s not that I don’t want to be associated as just this character. But I really feel like I need to be building other parts back up for balance."

"I so much want to do films right now. And I hope some of them come together in the way I feel like they can. But yeah, that’s something that I need. I just need other characters in my life," she added. "There’s no longevity in one character."

For what it's worth, we're hearing the idea is to continue Wanda Maximoff's story in Agatha All Along and Vision Quest, even if Olsen doesn't appear. With that in mind, there are clearly big ideas for her to be a central figure in the Multiverse Saga.

Let us know your thoughts on these rumours below.

So basicaly, nothing new at all, just the same rumors still doing the rounds and no actual additional confirmation of any of them?

That isn't to say any are false, they are all fairly safe bets in terms of what is being planned/talked about and SHOULD all be fairly soon as SHOULD all be released prior to Secret Wars and likely before Avengers 5 in terms of when filming starts if they make it into production but...

Cool i guess (even if it’s more or less just a reiterations of rumors we have already heard).

Anyway I’m down for a Blonde Phantom show …

I like the idea of a period piece pulp adventure series in the MCU and it apparently being described as a 50’s spy show set in Las Vegas gives me Agent Carter vibes to an extent and I’m all for that!!

I can see that being a Marvel Spotlight series honestly thus just being more standalone in nature.

Redemption for murdering psychopath Wanda.

@JobinJ - no way man, she's primed for the brotherhood right now

@JobinJ - Dr Strange helped wipe out half of all life in the Universe...

...How many millions of innocent deaths did Nebula and Gamora have a hand in whilst working for Thanos, amongst a number of others who we consider or became heroes who did as much or worse without the corruption of a magic book as an excuse...

...but ultimately they are way more likely to go down the path of joining Magneto's Brotherhood next whilst possibly also reinforcing/adding to the corrupting influences over Wanda so any full redemption will be a LONG way off...

...but also in comic book world most heroes end up with a lot of red in their ledger and a lot of full villains have periods being more heroic but Wanda has ALWAYS in the comics flipped back and forth between villain and hero so as long as she is well used in good stories what does it matter?

@JobinJ - Sorry, you don't get o decide and even if personaly think the should join the brotherhood anyway rather than back to being a hero I don't get to decide either...

...if it is good whatever she's next in it will be good regardless if you or I get what we prefer, being a bitch about it due to slightly differing opinion with a degree of nuance rather than your absolutist stance aint a good look.

@Apophis71 - Excuse me? Where the [frick] was I “being a bitch” about it? It’s just my opinion. You’re the one getting all personally offended by an Internet strangers opinion and writing long responses. excuse me? Where the [frick] was I being a bitch about it? It’s just my opinion. You’re the one getting all personally offended by an Internet strangers opinion and writing long responses. She killed lots of innocent people. Murdered them. It’s a normal response for someone to think she deserves to be punished for that. And doesn’t deserve to become a hero again.

By that logic we should’ve captured bin Laden and gave them a chance to redeem himself and live among us right? Or maybe Jeffrey Dahmer? Or the Latest school shooter?
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 6/23/2024, 10:12 AM
@JobinJ - We both gave reasonable responses, both saying she should next be part of the Brotherhood, thus not have a redemption to her for now, yet felt the need to emphasize repeated NO redemption which comes across as a total rejection of a nuanced reply that leans towards agreeing with an implied bitchy tone by the decision to capitalise the NO.

If that was not the intent then maybe word things more clearly without the absolutist response unwilling to engage in a ballanced nuanced discussion cos we did not reject or negate your view, just added our own and your the one that stuck your heals in the ground about it.

JobinJ - 6/23/2024, 10:18 AM
@Apophis71 - I do not think someone who murdered innocent people should be redeemed. I don’t think Loki should have ever been redeemed. Wanda is no different from any of the big villains in the Marvel universe now. She’s bad and doesn’t deserve a place next to heroes anymore.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 6/23/2024, 10:37 AM
@JobinJ - Which is a fair point of view and why I feel she should head towards being in the brotherhood next.

However even if we think they shouldn't have they did sell it well with Loki, with Bucky, with Hawkeye when under Loki's control, with Gamora, with Nebula, with Yondu taking so many kids to their death, even to some extent with Zemo in FatWC etc

Thus if they manage to sell the idea all her actions in MoM were down to the Darkhold, plus maybe a lot of control by Chthon too if they explore that aspect from the source, and give a LONG path to redemption after a period a part of the brotherhood they could make it work is all even if we prefer they didn't do that cos this is the sort of thing the comics did ALL the time :D
SuperiorHeckler
SuperiorHeckler - 6/23/2024, 8:24 AM
Yeah. Pretty easy enough to forgive-and-forget a multi-universal bloody, murderous rampage. Hey, let's give her a movie to show that there's no hard feelings for the character! 😃
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 6/23/2024, 11:03 AM
@SuperiorHeckler - It shouldn't be easy, but the comics we claim to love did it all the time so with Wanda of all characters there is a LOT of precedent to do so.

If they do it shouldn't be fast or easy and should be in the Brotherhood next on the wrong side of the line rather than back to being an Avenger.

Realy could do with bringing Chthon into the MCU fully, if they can sell she was heavily under the control of him after gaining possession of the book (not just the less tangible corruption by the book) after heavy influence by him prior to that too in a source accurate way then easier for her to be in the shades of grey zone for a while instead of full evil villain.

Redemption? BAH!! I want her to get worse. Do something even more horrible and have to be destroyed in Secret Wars.

Maybe she does one final Iron Man like sacrifice at the end of Secret Wars and goes out in a blaze of pathos and glory.

I'm not believing any of this until it's announced with a release date by Marvel. No way they're working on so much still while the slate is full until 2027

I don't know how are they going to set up those projects and characters when a big endgame-like project is happening what, 4 years from now?

Let starlord appear in an Avengers movie, same as Vision, no need to give them a solo project.

The next few years should prove interesting. D&W will be a sure fire hit. But then when Marvel continues producing other projects that don’t have the same level of mass appeal, they will flounder.

They’ll go to the old playbook of blaming fans and calling them unfounded names when projects are not reviewed well instead of going to the Business 101 rule of creating products that your customers want to consume.

Some of these projects will have modern left wing political and social messaging in them. Those projects will have pushback from the part of the fandom that doesn’t want to be preached to, and then the pointless culture war fights will take place.

But the bottom line is, if your products don’t satisfy your customer base, you as a business are doing things wrong.
