RUMOR: MAN OF STEEL Star Henry Cavill Has Joined The MCU...But Not As THE FANTASTIC FOUR's Doctor Doom

We're not taking this particular rumour too seriously, but if the latest online scuttlebutt is to be believed, Justice League star Henry Cavill has already agreed to join the MCU. Read on for details...

Following a short-lived return as Superman in Black Adam, Henry Cavill finds himself without a superhero franchise. Warner Bros. never treated the Man of Steel and Justice League star particularly well, and a leap to the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems like a logical next step for the British actor.

According to a rumour shared by scooper @MyTimeToShineH, Cavill has been offered - and accepted - a mystery role in a future Marvel Studios project.

This came after a fan shared their belief that he'd make a perfect Doctor Doom in The Fantastic Four reboot. That supposedly isn't happening, so we're sure speculation will now run wild as to who Cavill will play.

We don't expect it to be a character even remotely similar to Superman, but with the Multiverse on the table, we're sure Kevin Feige has some fun ideas in mind for Cavill. A reboot of the X-Men franchise is also on the horizon, as are movies such as Spider-Man 4 and Blade. As a result, the possibilities are endless.

Rumours have persisted for years that Cavill might join the MCU. The actor even commented on some pretty wild claims that he would appear in Loki season 2 (as Hyperion) shortly after returning to the role of Superman at the end of 2022.

"As far as I know, I am not going to be in Loki," he confirmed at the time. "It would be a tricky one to handle at this stage...if James Gunn can do it, maybe I can too." Since then, Gunn has fired Cavill from the role of DC's Man of Tomorrow, replacing him with David Corenswet in the upcoming Superman: Legacy.

Of course, if we go even further back into the archives, it was in 2021 - when The Witcher alum had mostly put Superman behind him - that Cavill revealed the specific Marvel character he'd be open to playing.

"I’m never going to say a Marvel character that is already being played by someone else because everyone’s doing such an amazing job," he explained. "However, I have the internet and I have seen the various rumors about Captain Britain."

"That would be loads of fun to do a cool, modernized version of that - like the way they modernized Captain America. There’s something fun about that, and I do love being British."

Do you think we'll see Cavill in the MCU? As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Hyperion please. Too good an opportunity to pass up.

@Itwasme - As I said earlier, a Supreme Power adaptation would suit him well. That whole quiet, contemplative, powerful thing. They'd have to go all in though, nudity, violence the whole shaboodle.

@soberchimera - Not a bad choice. He's not a Superman-like character which always seems to be the go-to pick for Cavill in the MCU

I want to see him in a villain role. He was so dope in Mission Impossible. But he's almost certainly playing Captain Britain

He'll probably be playing a multiverse variant of Captain America called 'Captain Britain' in Secret Wars.

I don't think they have the time to do anything else

Henry Cavill as The Beyonder

Not sure we have enough time to set him up. Unlike Thanos, they won't devote an entire movie to exploring the Beyonder as a character.

@Scarilian - he only has to take physical form as he did in SWII and that's almost all the exposition you need
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 2/17/2024, 3:29 PM
@ProfessorWhy - Exactly.

In fact they could also use the Fantastic Four movie. TFF seems to be set in 1963. That was the same year the FF faced the Molecule Man in the comics.

Owen Reece gained half the powers of the Beyonder in this issue. The other half was freed as a non-corporeal form and first appeared in Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #1. Then in Secret Wars II it took form and became the Disco Beyonder we all know and love.

So in TFF you could have Owen Reece get the full powers of the Beyonder and change his form to be his idea of the popular, good looking guy who always gets the girl and that's Henry Cavill.

@ProfessorWhy -
It doesn't work like that for the general audience.

General audience will have seen multiple projects with Kang and set-up for an entire council of Kangs, then rather than resolve that they decide to do another villain that's had no development prior as opposed to the villain that the only people left actually watching your projects are interested in.

It's akin to the Iron Man 3 Mandarin Twist, only worse because you at least had Aldrich Killian get some development prior. This would be a slap in the face of the fans who remained loyal and watched garbage like Ant-Man 3 because they were interested in the story being told.
ProfessorWhy

@Scarilian - you're assuming my suggestion is that the Beyonder supplants Kang, and immediately. I get you tho

Matt Shankman will dig deep into the rogues gallery for Cavill. They will modernize this, making him a TV pitchman for some super glue stuff and, well, you get the idea.

@Scarilian - to be fair, I don't think GA cares as much what the overarching stuff is like we do.

@Slotherin -
The over-arcing stuff was what kept people watching the MCU. Nowadays I agree that the GA no longer cares about the over-arcing storyline, but Disney still need to keep continuity otherwise they'll alienate the fans that do and actually supported them.

It's similar to the problem DC has going forward, why would audiences care about the over-arcing cinematic universe if there's no guarantee that the stories will see their conclusion as we saw with the DCEU.

@ProfessorWhy -

I don't really see a way to include Beyonder without him having to be either a Kang variant or just replacing Kang either entirely or by being responsible for killing off Kang.
Slotherin
Slotherin - 2/19/2024, 5:12 PM
@Scarilian - the overarching stuff is what the Marvel fans were all over... Not sure GA was as wrapped up in it.
Also this is coming late from me but weren't Loki and Quantumania the only things with Kang?
Scarilian
Scarilian - 2/19/2024, 6:33 PM
@Slotherin -
They were, but out of the Disney+ shows the most popular were WandaVision and Loki S1, especially Loki S1 which they rushed to do a second series.

As such, Disney fully believes the audience to have watched Loki and understand the TVA and Kang from Loki. Deadpool 3 for example while having a recap is primarily made with the idea the audience understand the TVA, hence the trailer focusing heavily on them.

As for Kang, even if a reduced amount of the audience saw Quantumania, it's still a villain they established as returning through a post-credit scene. If they don't pay off the post-credit scenes then eventually the audience realize they have no plan and that everything they watch could be set-up to stuff that never happens.
Slotherin
Slotherin - 2/19/2024, 6:48 PM
@Scarilian - the TVA is easy enough to recap that audiences aren't going to be reliant on familiarity thankfully. All things considered Marvel has been pretty good at making most of their movies accessible even if you haven't seen the prior entries.

As for post credits, I don't think the GA cares. When I go to see these movies in theaters only a few people ever stay for them unless it's the day 1 crowd.
