The Results Are In: See How CBM Users Ranked the MCU Films

A couple of weeks ago I ask asked the CMB Users to rank the MCU movies, and now after tallying up the votes we have the consensus.

First off thanks to everyone who voted, there was a larger turnout than I expected, which lead to a closer race. It was fun making my own list and  reading everyone’s list but the time for truth has come.

16.Iron Man 2 353 Points
Not surprisingly the Iron Man sequel received last place although many commented they still enjoyed the movie.

15. Thor: The Dark World 346 Points
A couple of more votes and this film could has easily been last but it was spared, and comes in at number 15.

14.The Incredible Hulk 319  Points
Another film that could've been in last the Hulk solo film was able to gain barely high votes to reach 14th place.

13.Thor 280 Points
The first film to come out the the 300 point range, Thor still lands in a low spot signifying he fan dissatisfaction with the the Thor duo that is leading to a radically different Ragnarok.

12.Iron Man 3 279 Points
If I had cut off the voting half way through this film would've been much higher but due to a string of low votes it lands out of the top ten.

11.Captain America:The First Avenger 236 Points
Sadly cap’s first movie barely misses the top ten.

10.Ant-Man 227 Points
On the tail of Guardians 2 this placement shows fans’ love of Paul Rudd.

9.Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 225 Points
Basically a reverse of Iron Man 3, the first half voters would have had this film much lower, but later voters saved it.

8.Doctor Strange 203 Points
At the midway point comes the first film to introduce magic into the MCU Doctor Strange.

7.Avengers:Age of Ultron 199 Points
Barely beating Doctor Strange, Avengers 2 is able to overcome the notion is was a disappointment.

6.Spider-Man:Homecoming 170 Points
The newest MCU film, homecoming made its mark landing right outside the top ten.

5.Iron Man 133 Points
The film that probably received the most varied votes the film that launched the MCU proves it is still dear to fans’ hearts.

4.The Avengers 123 Points
The highest grossing film on the list, and the favorite for many Avengers establishes its place in the top 5.

3.Guardians of the Galaxy 115 Points
A film that surprised many, the wacky humor of the guardians seems to please fans to this day.

2.Captain America:Civil War 114 Points
Barely beating Guardians Civil War comes in second place, making it the first sequel to be in the top five.

1.Captain America:The Winter Soldier 75 Points
And lastly comes the clear winner Winter Soldier as the only film to have under 100 points, and coming in at  an astonishing 39 points below Civil War.

There were many surprises making this list and I will enjoy reading the comments below.

I had a lot of fun making the list so if you want feel free to rank Fox’s X-men movies below also. It will be the same process u rank and I add points. Here's my ranking and vote below.

@StarlordsDad -

Great job putting together the votes! I also thought it was interesting that in the top half (or top 8) There's 3/Phase 3, 3/Phase 2 and 2/Phase 1. Given that phase 3 isnt finished, are MCU movies getting better?

Also, AoU came in between Homecoming and Doctor Strange so it's not as bad as everyone likes to say....although I do like Dark World..

1. X-Men: Days of Future Past - My Favorite.

2. X2: X-Men United! - Nightcrawler scene was sick.

3. The Wolverine

4. X-Men - Classic.

5. X-Men: First Class - Two words: Kevin Bacon.

6. X-Men: Apocalypse

7. Captain Deadpool - Not one I can re-watch a lot but still good.

8. Logan - Watched this once and fell asleep. Maybe on my second watch I will like it more or at least know whats going on.

9. X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Saw this bootlegged without all the special effects added before it was released. Not much difference than the final product. Don't mind giving this a watch every now and again though.

10. X-Men: The Last Stand - I'm the Juggernaut, bitch!

1.X-Men: Days of Future Past (9.5/10) tied the two timeliness together beautifully, finally showed what some of these characters could do (like iceman), had some fantastic performances, finally had sentinels, & had a phenomenal ending that redeemed X-Men 3.

2.X2: X-Men United (9.5/10) leaps & bounds better than the first, did basically everything better than the first did (& better than most of the films that followed as well), & had the nightcrawler scene, still one of the best scenes ever in a comic book movie.

3.Deadpool (9/10) true to character in appearance & personality (unlike most other fox X-Men movies), no holds barred, & absolutely nuts. One of the funniest comic book movies to date.

4.X-Men: First Class (9/10) not a perfect movie, but captured the team aspect of X-Men better than most (as well as actually having colorful costumes). It's magneto alone that sets this movie so high on the list tho (Xavier was great as well).

5.Logan (9/10) this movie is exceptionally well done. Well written, well shot, well choreographed, incredibly well acted, but I just can't really put it higher on this list because I simply didn't enjoy it as much as the others.

Objectively, I can see that this was great, but the fact that's it's so incredibly depressing (& definitely not a perfect movie, like the underwhelming villains), means I'm unlikely to want to watch it again anytime soon. That is important in the grand scheme of things, so it places here, in spite of how good it is.

6.The Wolverine (8.5/10) this movie's first 2 acts are among the best in this series, & it felt refreshingly smaller & more personal than most other comic book movies. Yes the third act was a bit jarring, but I still enjoyed it.

The post credit stinger might be my favorite of all time, & it genuinely surprised me when it came out. I still get chills when I watch it. Oh & if anyone here hasn't watched the director's cut of this movie, do it now, it's excellent.

7.X-Men: Apocalypse (8/10) far more flawed than both first class & days of future past, but this movie has more going for it than many admit. Apocalypse's design isn't perfect but I still thought Oscar Isaac did a good job. Some of the newer cast did better than others. Cyclops & storm in particular stood out to me over jean & archangel. Jury is still out on nightcrawler & psylocke (tho I'm glad nightcrawler still has the accent).

Fassbender & MacAvoy remain the highlights of this franchise, & Jennifer Lawrence (& this studio's insistence on relying on her) has her worst performance in this franchise to date, clearly checking out before filming even started. They've managed to make mystique the main character, while also making her the last interesting character in the series. But hey, at least we finally got some awesome suits!

8.X-Men (7.5/10) the film that started it all. Blade began the marvel movie process, but it was X-Men that really got the ball rolling. Not necessarily comic accurate, but this movie probably has the best dynamic of the team (like cyclops actually leading, & multiple people having things to do). The fact that this film has by far the biggest role for cyclops yet, makes me incredibly sad.

The effects haven't dated that well & some of the missed opportunities (like not having a better showdown between wolverine & sabretooth, & the black leather costumes) look worse in hindsight. It's easy to criticize now, but this movie was top of the line when it came out. Some of the castings for this movie are still among the best ever in a comic book movie (Stewart, McKellen, Jackman, etc).

9.X-Men Origins: Wolverine (6/10) definitely not a great movie, but I rank it above the last stand because it did a couple things right, & because it didn't completely destroy the current timeline when it came out. Jackman always gives 100%, but it's Reynolds & Schreiber who steal every scene they're in. If not for the baraka-pool fiasco, this film would probably be remembered more for being dumb fun, rather than a complete mess.

10.X-Men 3: The Last Stand (4.5/10) probably a better film than Origins, but this movie caused the most disappointment that I've felt in a comic book movie. From the head scratching dumb decisions, to killing off beloved characters in stupid fashion (cyclops anybody?), to causing so much damage, that it took a franchise saving reset (days of future past) to fix all the damage. This movie blew it on multiple fronts. Not a terrible movie, just an awful comic book movie.

10. X-Men Origins: Wolverine. An afront to all fans everywhere. What's to like? Moving through history during the opening sequence, I 'spose. Sabertooth did his best to save this.

9. X-Men: The Last Stand. There's alot to hate in this, purely on how characters are treated. Just like Rogue giving up her powers for a boy, X3 is alarmingly shallow. But at least Beast was good.

8. X-Men Days of Future Past. The movie that makes Mystique literally the most important mutant in the world. Ugh. No look at the dystopian cities or mutant camps. Just mountains. Mega plotholes like Logan's claws,Kitty's new power, or the fact that Xavier even exists in the future.
Only good for bringing the old cast back, and the Quicksilver scene.

7. X-Men: Apocalypse. Nobody gives this movie credit for finally starting to fix the canon problems. Havok is finally Scott's brother. Xavier is finally bald. The team finally wears colors. Magneto loses his family. This one is solid, it's just that the villain sucked.

6. X-Men: First Class. This is the movie that ruined the continuity. It also gets virtually every single character wrong, and it's not even about starting the school. But it is a thrilling revenge movie, and Charles and Eric have great chemistry.

5. The Wolverine. This one has sort of been overshadowed by his big brother, but outside of a flawed final act, this movie was an awesome return to form for Logan, a great travelogue, and has the BEST fight choreography in the series.

4. X-Men. I can't stress enough the importance of this movie to not only the franchise, but to cbms in general. It discovered Hugh Jackman and absolutely nailed Patrick Stewart. Mutant persecution takes center stage, something the new films forgot.

3. Deadpool. The most perfect X-Man on screen. When people talk about "getting it right" they are going to be talking about Deadpool for a long time to come. Considering this was a "do over", it's a minor miracle this ever got made.

2. Logan. A brilliant character study that transcends the genre in a way only The Dark Knight has done before it. Poignant relationships, and a movie that actually has something to say. It's rare to find true DRAMA in any cbm. Kudos.

1. X2: X-Men United. A great government-hunt story that is still the most realized "X-Men" film there is. This movie has the best use of mutant powers, and the best use of the cast. From the main team, to the younger kids, to even villain Striker, everybody gets a moment to shine, even Cyclops, in the only film that showcases his hand-to-hand combat. Storm's tornadoes, Wolverine's berserker rage, the White House Attack, Bobby's family... one unforgettable moment after another. No other X-Men movie can claim this.

First, I don't really consider Deadpool an X-Men movie. Yeah, he has ties, but so do the Avengers.
Second, it's hard to rank a bunch of movies that have huge plot holes and age poorly.
Lastly, I only participate b/c no one since "Superman II" had put multiple super-powered individuals on screen simultaneously.
