Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (best known from the television series The Tudors -- which also happened to have served as most people's introduction to Man of Steel star Henry Cavill) will star in the title role.
Set in the 1890s, in the show Dracula will have two personas: first as an American businessman who has supposedly come to London in an effort to introduction modern science to Victorian society. But his true agenda is retribution against the world he had fought against centuries earlier. Things go awry, however, when he meets a woman who appears to be the reincarnation of his long dead wife.
Offers NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt, "In a world of Twilight and True Blood with contemporized stories, it's great to go back to the original. The [Bram Stoker] book is still fresh and we have an original, incredible script. We're very excited about it and it's going right to series. There's a Tudors sensibility to Dracula and it's set in the 1896 period while looking to the future. It's a really cool new version of Dracula."
