Joe Carnahan Teases His Adaptation Of Mark Millar's NEMESIS

We've known for a while that Joe Carnahan (The Grey) is tackling the big screen adaptation of Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's Nemesis, and he has now taken to his Twitter account to tease the opening scene of the movie. Check it out!

Joe Carnahan and his brother Matthew are currently working on the screenplay of Nemesis together, with the former set to also direct the film. Taking to his Twitter account (@carnojoe) this evening, Joe has hinted at what we should expect from the opening of the big screen adaptation of the Mark Millar (Kick-Ass) and Steve McNiven (Civil War) comic book series. In that, Nemesis destroys part of Tokyo and brutally murders a police chief. Whether or not this is the sequence that Carnahan is referring to remains to be seen, although the ending of issue #1 (in which the villain hijacks Air Force One, crashes it into Washington D.C. and takes the President hostage) would arguably make for an even more shocking way to introduce the character! What do you guys think? Check out the Tweet below and be sure to sound off with your thoughts on this news in the usual place.

Probably going to be some mark millar shocking and foul for the sake of being shocking and foul thing, Like wanted. The ending of the comic of wanted I think is the most nihilistic and cynical thing I think I've ever seen in a comic book.

This is Millar's hook, shock and awe or mostly just shock. That's all I get from his stories 90% of the time.

But I'll probably, almost certainly, end up seeing this anyway and hating myself for it just like I did Kick-Ass and Wanted

@Splenda I actually don't mind millar that much. I think the ultimates 1&2 are one of the best things ever published by marvel, I don't mind some of his other stuff like kick ass and old man logan and which was fun. But it's his stuff like wanted and nemesis which I think are just profanity and gore for the sake of it.

If he goes with the Air Force One hijacking and crashing it into Washington DC...im sure that would have the exact effect he teased at in his tweet.

I have to say to I'm not a fan of Millar's work. I find it juvenile, crass, and vile for the sake of being vile. Works like Nemesis and Kick-Ass 2 are especially guilty of this. In Nemesis, the main character kidnaps the hero's son and daughter and impregnates the daughter with the son's semen. In Kick-Ass 2, the Mother[frick]er (God, shot me) kills a bunch of little kids for no reason and rapes Dave's girlfriend for no reason.

Does any of this sound like something that is enjoyable to read?

Nemesis was definitely Millar's weakest work.

"Nemesis" is just a terrible, terrible comic book. And it's not like I hate Millar's stories, I actually love his work on "The Ultimates", "The Authority", "Old Man Logan", "Superman Red Son" and so on... but "Nemesis" just shows how fast he's running out of ideas. Just like "Wanetd" which was also a lame and highly overrated comic book.

Awesome; can't wait for this one.
I wonder how the costume's going to be like- I just hope it won't be all armoured up like TDK; that seems to be the trend nowadays, replacing spandex with "cooler" materials.

@Splenda I also forgot to mention, i think civil war is one of the biggest pieces of shit written in the last 10 years. I also think his whole showing rape for shock value is extremely offensive, and i'm a person who doesn't get offended easily, it takes a lot to offend me and the rape stuff in wanted and kick ass 2 almost made me put the books down and throw them in the bin. Because i know someone who was raped, and the effect it has on people is really horrible and for him to just use that for shock value is incredibley low and in poor taste to say the least. One of the best things i've ever read in comics that deals with rape is kevin smith's spider-man and black cat the evil that men do.

If they alter it like how they changed Kick Ass & Kick Ass 2, maybe the movie could be better than the comic, which shouldn't be that difficult anyway. The art was good though.
CaptainObvious

I think the only reason that Millar's comics get made into movies is because these filmmakers know they can do his stories better than him.

Carnahan?! A-Team Carnahan?! From Tony Scott (RIP, God rest his soul) to Joe [frick]ing Carnahan#?!! That's quite a drop in quality.

I'm looking forward to this movie. I hope it does well to make way for my favorite Millar independant work, Superior.

Personally having a son that fights a chronic condition daily this is a great take off the story of Superman that shows how the dreams of those facing problems bigger than my own can dream just as big as I can.

I still see Oscar-potential in Superior.
