Entertainment Weekly report that Stephen King's bestselling Fantasy novel Eyes Of The Dragon has been optioned for either a movie or miniseries at SyFy. The script will be written by Michael Taylor (Battlestar Galactica) and Jeff Vintar (I, Robot).

Dragon is a standalone novel, but does overlap into some of King's other works, most notably with the villain of the piece - an evil entity who has appeared (or at least, an aspect of him) in The Stand and The Dark Tower saga. In Dragon the character is known as Flagg (other incarnations are Randall Flagg, Walter O'Dim, The Man In Black, The Walkin Dude etc), an evil magician of the King's court. The novel's setting, Delain, is also mentioned in The Dark Tower. It seems with the popularity of HBO's Game Of Thrones, other networks are hoping to get in on the Fantasy action. If this is done well it could be something very special. We will update if any more info becomes available.

A kingdom is in turmoil as the old king dies and his successor must do battle for the throne. Pitted against an evil wizard and a would-be rival, Prince Peter makes a daring escape and rallies the forces of Good to fight for what is rightfully his. This is a masterpiece of classic dragons-and-magic fantasy that only Stephen King could have written.

Seems cool, but Syfy can suck a fat one.

Little known fact.

Stephen Deschain, Roland's father in the Dark Tower series, actually named Roland after the character King Roland in Eyes of the Dragon. He was famous for slaying for a Dragon, so Stephen named his son after him. :)

I wish some parent company would produce King's work with love, care, and continuity. There is so much overlap between this, The Stand, Insomnia, IT, Salem's Lot, and especially The Dark Tower. So much potential to create a King universe on film correctly.

That being said, "Eyes of the Dragon" would work as a mini-series at best. The book is under 400 pages and is a relatively small scale story. Like most of King's work, you can see a film play out while reading. Whether this will be any good is up in the air, like most of his film/TV adaptations.

Good news. Better get it right. By the way got the new dark tower book this morning. Started reading it and got so engrossed, had to call in sick to finish it. Its pretty short but really really good. Well worth missing a days pay. What I get paid anyway.

Aw man, really? I've been meaning to pick it up, i've just been really busy with work and family. So is it a few short stories, a flashback, or something else?

And does it actually add anything important to the overall story? I was a little skeptical when i heard he was adding a chapter to the story, but who am i fooling? I'm a King fanatic, of course i'm going to get it, lol.

This was a good novel. I find nothing to rejoice about, knowing it is SyFy, and fear what they will do with the story almost as much as I fear the crappy actors they will hire, the crappy special effects and sets.

@CorndogBurglar. Yeah as you probably know its set between books 4 and 5. The start and end is with Roland and the katet then Roland tells a couple stories from his youth. Sounds boring but it really ain't. Bit of horror in it as well as fantasy. It was just good to read them characters again. Like seeing old friends. Can't praise it enough.
