It has come to my attention plenty of people here, and probably world wide, bitch and complain "Why isn't Nick Fury White!? I want Nick Fury White?!" And it is so goddamn annoying! Yes i know we're all acustomed to this:

I get it. You know Fury as being white, even since his 1963 Debut in The Howling Commandos. And i understand a lot might not like Ultimate Nick Fury, but that's no reason to constantly give shit to an Actor who is great, and who has won an Academy Awards.

I wonder have any of you seen this Cover:

Now this is Nick Fury's first official Appearance as an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. you know what the shocker about Issue 165 of Strange Tales of 1965? Nick Fury's skin looks like that of an African American!!! Now some of you might be blind and claim to see a tanned white fellow, but thats just you wanting to ignore the truth that at some point in the 616 continuity Nick Fury, even if it's only for 1 issue or 1 cover, Was Black.

In all honesty I love SLJ he's one of my favorite actors, just for his dedication to the role, and i Love him playing Ultimate Nick Fury on the big screen. What's wrong with that?

We have an Avenger's continuity and with good actors, I'm in favor of keeping that and if you're not then don't watch it no one's forcing you, but at least think the next time you find a complaint. We all like our own actors and you know. Just as Many people SLJ is better for that role are better than him.

If i have to choose between:

I'm choosing the one who: A.) Didn't star in Knight Rider. and B.) Hasn't failed in Comic Book Adaptation featuring the Character.

That's all folks.

Mate THUMBS DOWN lol!

Its got nothing to do with color...

Its [frick]ing ULTIMATE...

Much like we don't want [frick]ing ULTIMATE in the new SPIDEY movie, accepting it only means a green light for HOLLYWOOD lol.

Didn't want ULTIMATE THOR either... thank [frick] BRANAGH has real vision!

THOR = EPIC! : p

I actually like SLJ as FURY, but are we in 616
or the ULITMATE universe? I mean IRONMAN was 616
or not Fury did show up the ULITMATE version.
What about Capt.America what universe will he
be from or THOR..well I really dont know myself
IF SOMEONE COULD EXPLAIN IT CLEARLY I'D BE HAPPY!!

I would have perferred the white FURY from the start
but since that didnt happen I just need to get up to
speed with the MADNESS of MARVEL!! THE HULK wasnt
ULITMATE so Im guessing when they do the AVENGERS
it's going to be a mixuter of both universes I guess.

Ibz - 12/6/2010, 2:40 PM
seriously people are debating what universe the movies are based on why would you do that, its pretty bloody clear that there taking bits from both universes and mixing it with there own ideas, which great, i'd rather have them mix it up then follow one distinct universe, and LEEE the ultimate nick fury was based on SLJ need i say more

@Blade as far as i know the thor movie is taking a lot inspiration from the jack kirby era by making it more sci fi, making the asgardians basicly aliens who were worshipped by people, while thors actual appearance with the beard and all looks ultimate. and i remember hearing somewhere that the captain america movie was going to heavily draw on from ed brubakers run on the comics so again drawing heavily from the 616 and i am hoping personality wise cap is based on the 616, the ultimate one is a douche bag
jbak368
jbak368 - 12/6/2010, 2:40 PM
The Film Universe is neither 616 or Ultimate, it's its own universe, so it's free to draw inspiration from wherever the creators choose. I like SLJ a lot, and anyone who says he isn't a great actor clearly hasn't seen Pulp Fiction or Unbreakable or any of his other great parts. Yes he is often typecast as "Angry Black Dude," but he has played other parts and plated them quite well.
Ibz
Ibz - 12/6/2010, 2:46 PM
@jbak368 exactly dude

and personally i wanted the 616 nick fury but i have no problems what so ever with the ultimate nick, there personalities dont even differ much at all

Samuel L. Jackson is my favorite actor. I love the Ultimate Universe

Great article, I thought I was the only person who liked Ultimate Nick Fury, he is going to be doing some action in The Avengers and it will prove to all haters that Samuel L. Jackson is the great actor and Nick Fury he should be credited for.

@LEEE777
"He's good at playing himself" he is a great actor, you clearly have never seen Jungle Fever, A Time To Kill, Unthinkable OR Unbreakable, and those are just some of his MANY great works

They aren't any comic book universe they are the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it sone new universe that combines various source materials.

EDIT: woops just read that jbak368 already said this, but its true so I'll use this to reaffirm what he said ;P

Well, people just don't like that there is ANYTHING Ultimate involved. Which is weird because both the 616 and Ultimate universes do some really good things as well as some bad. I think EVERYONE can agree with that.

As far as SLJ playing Nick Fury, I think its a little ridiculous to say that SLJ plays himself and not Nick Fury. How can anyone POSSIBLY say that? Ultimate Nick Fury IS SLJ in the comics. If there were ever a role for SLJ to play himself, its this one, because Ultimate Nick Fury is based off SLJ, not the other way around. In the comics, you could actually say that Fury is playing SLJ. They based his character on Sam Jackson, from his attitude right on down to his appearance. So you can argue that there is NO ONE better suited to play Ultimate Nick Fury than Sam Jackson himself.

Personally, I would have preferred white Nick Fury, but again, white Nick Fury isn't based on anyone in real life, so it makes sense to use black Nick Fury because he IS based on someone in real life. So you'll never find an actor who can play white Nick Fury as well as Sam Jackson plays black Nick Fury, because they are the same person.

So I actually think Sam Jackson is a fine choice.

SLJ is one of my favorite parts of the new MCU. One of many true but still on the list.

The Ultimate Universe books brought true DEATH to mainstream comic books. For that alone I appreciate them. To me without true Death there is no true Drama.

Infinite Crisis.

Superman rages. He holds the 'body' of batman in his arms. Gasp. Tears.

Give me a [frick]ing break.

It meant nothing. Even if they had not actually showed Bruce still alive it would have meant nothing. After 75 years they have drained every bit of true drama out of the mainstream comics. I. Me! Looked at the body of the Bat and felt absolutely nothing.

Couldn't have said it better myself. The revolving door of death is the one thing thahas driven me away from mainstream comics lately. its ridiculous. Every mini-series and maxi-series these days has to have a main character die in it, but it means nothing because EVERYONE who knows ANYTHING about comics, knows that character will be back. It sucks...

i've watched a few of his movies "unbreakable"totally different character than when he played shaft..good movie. i didnt like pulp fiction, but most did and he's totally
different in that one also compared to unbreakable.
here's a rundown of him playing the same character
as you say...not!

star wars:the clone wars 2002&2007
resurrecting the champ,room 1408,both xxx movies,s.w.a.t,
a time to kill etc. the guy has shown range and he's
played more than one character the movies i mention above proves that. what i said before still stands
it is what is this is america it's in the blood!!

CorndogBurglar - 12/8/2010, 5:25 AM
what don't you guys understand? YES, SLJ plays himself in all his movies. but this is the ONE movie where he SHOULD be playing himself. Ultimate Nick Fury IS SLJ for god's sake. Ultimate Nick Fury was based off of SLJ in real life. In the Ultimate comics, Fury acts JUST LIKE SLJ. Get the [frick] over it already.

There's no one better for the part. how is this even up for discussion? There's not a single other comic character in all of comics that has a better actor to play them.

Hey Leee777, did you hear the latest spoilers about X-Men First Class? The new shooting location is in Smallville, and they've recast Sam L. Jackson as Professor X, and Tom Welling as Magneto! I'm sure you'll be first in line to buy your ticket. ;)

Sorry Leee777, Sam Jackson doesn't always play himself. He does the same thing a lot, I know, but if you saw him in "Black Snake Moan" you wouldn't even know it was him. As far as SLJ playing Nick Fury, Oh Hell Yeah!! He rocks the eye patch!!

Dear God, seriously? He's doing good at the part, so does it matter what universe the character is based on? Once again, this is just racism to me.

After reading all this, I have to tell you i think it is kind of ****ed up that a character that was originally modeled after or based on, a wonderful actor named Aldo Ray (i asked Stan Lee about this specifically and that's what he said), who happened to be white at the time, and who has now become black......personally, i don't see the need for it other than as a demonstration of some kind of passive/aggressive display on the part of the hollywood hack who thought it up.......so we are now all at the mercy of this ludicrous ideation and all the controversy that it generates.......we have all become suckers, for a variety of reasons, to this completely unnecessary idea........Sgt. Fury was white and as it happens in the story, even had a black soldier in his unit (Pvt.Gabe Jones) even though it was historically inaccurate.......the reason in that case was to present an elite, cohesive fighting unit of diverse racial, regional and religious backgrounds and it was the sixties after all.........in the present case, a change of race for a classic character was just foolish and unnecessary and I would try to discover the ulterior motive behind it if it has become a real problem for anyone.......after all it may have been done solely to create hubbub, controversy, hype etc..........anyway, that's what i think.......thank you for your time.

Get the f' over it what is done is done. Its a great choice until proven otherwise. He needs to a guy with a don't f' with me attitude and who else can it be besides SLJ. Nick fury would be like batman dealing with the justice league they know not to f' with him same as nick fury.
