As most of you know, the character of Nick Fury was a white man in the comics until the Ultimate Marvel Universe, where he was changed to be an African-American, with his look and personality tailored after actor Samuel L. Jackson with the actor's permission. Jackson portrays Nick Fury in the 2008 film Iron Man and reprised the role in the sequel, and in Captain America: The First Avenger. He also appears uncredited as Fury in Thor, and is set to appear as in the 2012 film The Avengers.
Here is the actual quote from Ebony Magazine:
"I voted for Barack because he was black. ’Cuz that’s why other folks vote for other people — because they look like them,” Jackson said. “That’s American politics, pure and simple. [Obama’s] message didn’t mean shit to me. In the end, he’s a politician. I just hoped he would do some of what he said he was gonna do."
This turn of events is nothing if not ironic since changing Fury into an African-American was Marvel's attempt at being racially sensitive by bringing more ethnic diversity into their universe. So much for being "politically correct".
Of course, Mr. Jackson's political views are his own, and he is entitled to them. It is just disappointing that someone who is identified with an obvious attempt to be inclusive of other races is himself, NOT.
He may also just be a hardcore liberal democrat and would've voted that way in any case. It's hard to say. Maybe he would've voted for Hermain Cain if things had been different, but either way, the fact that he openly admits to not caring about Barack Obama's views, but only that he was black is pretty damning. That is not what Martin Luther King wanted for his people.
