Ants Were Supposed To Eat Cate Blanchett's Face In INDIANA JONES 4

Ants Were Supposed To Eat Cate Blanchett's Face In INDIANA JONES 4

The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was by far the worst film in the Indiana Jones franchise, but would it have been any better if they had included a scene with Cate Blanchett's face being eaten by ants as it was originally planned? Of course not!

;In 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the two-time Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett ("Blue Jasmine") played scientist and military officer, Colonel Doctor Irina Spalko. She was killed at the end of the movie when she demanded the inter-dimensional aliens to give her all of their knowledge. The power is too much for her mere mortal form and she disintegrates. Neat. But, it would've looked a bit different with her face partially chewed off. Yup, the original plan was to have a portion of her face consumed by the vicious ants seen earlier in the film. Below, is concept art illustrator Miles Teves designed for the unused sequence.
Indiana Jones is back in a new globe-trotting adventure, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Harrison Ford as Indy, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” features an outstanding cast, including Oscar winner Cate Blanchett, Karen Allen, Ray Winstone, John Hurt, Oscar winner Jim Broadbent and Shia LaBeouf. The screenplay is by David Koepp from a story by George Lucas and Jeff Nathanson.

being a big indy fan. i expected something very bad to happen to her at the end. i do not think the ants would have been a good enough payoff. i sense george thought the same.

I know I'm in the minority but I disagree with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull being the worst Indy film, that dubious honor goes to Temple of Doom for me. Let's face it, any Indiana Jones movie that doesn't involve Nazis isn't really that good.

movie had its moments but those are far outweighed by how terrible it is

I'm a huge Indiana Jones fan, and even I have to admit this movie sucked.

At least the original trilogy is still great.

This movie had potential but was ruined by over the top CGI in a series that thrives off great practical effects. The end of Raiders where the Ark opens and the faces melt, explode and implode is one of my favorite scenes in all of cinema.

Well that and the f c u k i n g aliens!!!!!!!

I think the expectations of the previous movies made people hate this. Sort of like a drug addict chasing their first high. All the while knowing it'll never feel like the first time. Crystal Skull was my introduction to Indy, and with nothing to weigh it against, I thought it was great. I immediately saw the older movies afterwards, and it holds up

Also I don't understand why people are gripping over outlandish plot elements and action scenes when the entire series is based on that. I mean hearts are ripped out with people still walking, the arc of the covenant ripping souls apart (so cool btw). Aliens just don't seem that far fetched in the Indyverse
