IRON MAN 3 Director Shane Black Is Working On A New Avengers Project

Sure to elicit some strong emotions from this site as his name is one of divisiveness but highly acclaimed writer and director Shane Black is set to co-write and spearhead a new Avengers project.

Acclaimed writer and director Shane Black of Lethal Weapon and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang fame who is currently in the process of rebooting the action franchise Predator is also, it has been revealed, working on a television reboot of the classic British spy series The Avengers.

Wait.

You thought I meant something else – oh yeah I can see that now.

Frequent writing partner with Black, Fred Dekker revealed in an interview that both he and the Iron Man 3director are working on a script for a TV reboot of the 1960s show for Warner Bros. stating:

“It’s The Avengers, with John Steed and Emma Peel. We’re setting it in Britain in the 60’s, and our approach is The Ipcress File meets Doctor Who. At this moment, it’s my favorite thing we’re working on.”

For those that don’t know The Avengers television show was a 60’s spy series riding the Bond craze of the era starring Dame Diana Rigg  and Patrick McNee.  It also inspired similar shows such as The Man From UNCLE and Mission: Impossible both of which have since had the big screen treatment.

Interesting fact The Avengers television show is the reason that in the UK, the first MCU team up film was released as Avengers Assemble and it will be interesting to see if the reverse becomes true and this show will need to be re-branded.

This project will mark the first time Black has worked on a television show, though in some stages of development his brilliant 2016 film The Nice Guys was conceived as one.

Are you looking forward to Shane Black tackling television? Are you excited for a cheesy 60’s spy show? Do you still hate me for the title? Feel free to comment below.

Hahaha sumbitch. I was excited at the prospect of Black returning to the MCU. Iron Man 3 was a fantastic movie, marred only by Guy Pierce’s character and the Extremis lava monster stuff. Great script and plot otherwise though. The Mandarin twist was very clever, and Kingsley was great in both his roles. Shame fans tore it apart because comics fans a) despise variation from ‘source material’, b) seem to have a wierd hatred for films including kids, which is wierd since ‘Iron Man’ is kind of kid stuff, and c) many of them have an aversion to humour.

Wasn’t perfect but it was pretty great.

@connorblaze - Iron Man III sucked total ass.

You can skip right over it in a Marvel Studios marathon and not miss it at all.

As far as clickbait titles go, this is easily the best one I’ve seen on this site in a while, maybe ever.

It is oh so amusing how much a click bait article can really piss you off after a horrifically lousy day. I should have waited till later to get my fill of nerdisms.

If it's in the vein of The Nice Guys and his other work, and it's not toned down for TV then this could be really cool!
