Katee Sackhoff Says There's Been Some Marvel Movie Discussion...MS. MARVEL Perhaps?

Last night on The Schmoes Know podacst (which we'll post in full for you guys later on), the fan-favorite BSG actress was fairly tight lipped when quizzed about any possible Marvel movie roles..but she did confirm that there's "been some stuff going on". Click on for more..

Last night former Battlestar Galactica alum and star of this week's big geek release Riddick, Katee Sackhoff, joined our friends over at The Schmoes Know Movies Podcast. A variety of things were discussed (more on that later on) but most interesting was Katee's response when quizzed about the recent online chatter of her being interested in a Marvel movie role..specifically Ms./Captain Marvel. It all started with the actress merely saying she'd be up for taking the role in any possible future movie, but it seems things have progressed from there! When asked if there had been any official phone calls or discussions on the matter, Katee first asks which studio that would be with (Disney), before revealing that "there's been some stuff going on" and "a lot of checking of availability for the first quarter of next year". Now although the lads try to get a bit more out of her, Katee never mentions Ms. Marvel specifically, but with the recent news that the studio are considering her big-screen debut I'd say it's a safe bet. But if not Carol Danvers, any ideas who else it could be? Sound off in the usual place.

Maybe Captain Marvel. I think Ms. marvel is just such a lame and slightly demeaning name. I wouldn't mind seeing her as the Enchantress

Then again Katee Sackhoff could be VISION... Nah Joss would never let that happen. I dunno there's so many roles that have been hinted at the she could play.- Tigra, She Hulk, Ms.Marvel, Mockingbird, Wasp. Just too many to tell.

She Hulk would be stupid.

We already have a Hulk and a green woman in the MCU.

If it's for first quarter of next year than it definitely isn't Ms. Marvel. That would fall in line with the filming of AoU, so probably a SHIELD agent, maybe even Mockingbird. Or it could possibly be for Ant-Man, so Wasp perhaps.

Welcome, welcome!! Always excited to get a new character in the MCU. I hope they do an electrifying Ms. Marvel film so DC can gather the testicular fortitude to do WW.

Ms/Captain Marvel is a really tricky proposition. I think the current Captain Marvel book is awesome, and more importantly it's ripe with material that would carve out its own little corner and have its own flavour in the stable of MCU properties.

I think Katee Sackhoff suits the current run really well, with a slightly "boyish" aura, and you'd totally buy her as a pilot heavily invested and interested in air-force history.

The problems arise the same way they do for a Miles Morales/Spidey film. It's really, really entangled in prior comic book history, to the point where you'd really need a condensed, brand new origin for a movie Captain Marvel. You probably would for a Ms Marvel movie, too, but long-time fans would probably be more okay with that.

But the current Captain Marvel really does feel like a very modern, very sincere approach to a female superhero. She's pissing people off with her hairdo being "too butch", which is a great sign that she's not just falling into the category of 90s Pamela Anderson with a swimsuit painted on, and with an already strong character in Carol Danvers having her origin/normal identity back, it would probably make for the most impactful female-led movie Marvel can do right now.

It sucks that the character is stepping on the toes of fans of the original Captain Marvel, but that's just highlighting the bigger problem of female heroes having to "inherit" a title from male ones. That's why I agree with @Praetorian that "Ms Marvel" is annoying as a name. The connotation is clear; "she's merely the "Ms Pacman" to the *real* Captain Marvel."

if Marvel really wants to make a Miss Marvel movie one day, they should be really carefull with the actress choice.

She should be someone more or less known, and with the skills to lead a solo movie.

So not sure if this actress would be the best choice.

Figures. Marvel is going to lead the way AGAIn with a female superhero. And all the while WB has the SINGLE most ICONIC female superhero and they do NOTHING with it.

Then when Marvel succeeds, the suits at WB will be reactionary as always and fast track a Wonder Woman film... so fast in fact that they screw it up.

This is sadly very true. And I say sadly, because exactly the kind of actor you're proposing - one that would put asses in seats - would need to be such a known quantity that it's nearly impossible to get one that suits Carol Danvers.

The only one I can really think of with that kind of pull, who also suits the role to a degree, is Charlize Theron.

She should have been Gamora. I can believe her as the deadliest woman in the Marvel Universe more than 55 lbs Z

I ain't gonna lie, the only real female hero that deserves to have a movie is Wonder Woman because she really is THE ONLY FEMALE SUPERHERO IN COMICS.

Ms Marvel is with Captain Mar-vell.

She-Hulk has Hulk.

Scarlet Witch has Quicksilver & Vision.

Batgirl has Batman and Nightwing.

Mera with Aquaman.

Black Canery with Green Arrow.

While When In Rome is a great Catwoman story, its really her only great one.

Supergirl has Superman.

Wasp has Ant-Man.

Black Widow has Cap & Hawkeye.

Elektra has Daredevil.

Storm & Jean has the X-Men.

Batwoman & Huntress with Batman.

Sue has the Fantastic Four.

Hawkgirl with Hawkman.

Spider-Girl & Black Cat has Spider-Man.

Don't know who has Spider-Woman's rights.

Sif with Thor.

Pepper with Iron Man.

Carter with Cap.

Most female superheroes are sidekicks or sideshows in a way to the male characters. Wonder Woman doesn't have that which is why she's really the only female superhero. She's not connected to any male superhero. She is the main show.

Of course WB is too pussy to do a Wonder Woman.

Yes DC will do a Wonder Woman movie. I mean they take their time to get their shit right. Just look at Green Lantern.

I don't believe WB will do a Wonder Woman movie until after a Justice League movie and that's looking unlikely.

@LEVITIKUZ

I wholeheartedly agree. However, I do think Captain Marvel/Carol is in a pretty good position to be given a push and become a staple Marvel character of her own, right now. You would need to rewrite the events leading up to her receiving her powers, and you'd have to sweep the male Captain Marvel under the rug a bit, but she's definitely primed for that sort of attention.

Hell, Batman had a gun and Superman just jumped really high. All of these things change. Psylocke has insanely convoluted history, but what really matters is who she is right now, and she's awesome. Only DC have the "luxury" to rewrite these things overtly because of their heavy-handed universe reboots, but given time, new status quos are established at Marvel, too.
ParisSun
ParisSun - 9/6/2013, 8:57 AM
I think she can do it. I would like Marvel to start putting in more hero cameos. Not necessarily in their uniforms but have Matt Murdock or Jennifer Walers show up as legal cousel for someone. Have Carol Davers flying a Quinjet. I don't need big hero appearances but it would be nice if MCU would pepper their movies with these types of nuggets.
