Preconception of actors/actresses... Do we judge too early?

Honestly this has been on my mind for a while now, but after seeing the Avengers and how Ruffalo stole the show, I thought it was time to share my opinion.

Now us fan boys love judging things early, some times we get it right but we get it wrong too. I know I have done it before my self. But are we too quick to judge, especially when it comes to actors, I believe so. Well the first example of this was Michael Keaton being cast as Batman/Bruce Wayne. Fans were shocked and appalled at the idea of an actor who had made a name for his self in comedies such as Mr.Mom and Beetlejuice would play Batman.

Even when the internet was not around us fan boys still found a way to voice our opinions and bombard WB with letter telling them how [frick]ed up there choice was. Well what happened when the movie was released, every single one of us was proven wrong, Keaton was god damn Batman. To some he is still the definitive Batman, whilst others would agree that he did a good job. Was he perfect know, there are fan's out there who still believe he was a terrible choice, but to them I would say just like at the performances by Clooney and Kilmer. So this was one of the first example of fan boy preconceptions being proven wrong.

Now lets look at one of the most infamous case, yes Health Ledgers casting as the Joker. Oh boy did that drive us fan boys crazy, "the dude from the gay cowboy movie playing Joker. BLASPHEMY!!" was the most popular reaction on the net.

I think every one would agree that Ledgers Joker owned the movie(IMO you take away his performance and the movie becomes pretty media-core). He literally blew every one away with his performance. But once again preconceptions of him were proven wrong.

Well this brings me to my final point, whilst I know a lot of you have not seen the Avengers but if you have read any of the reviews, or heard reactions from people who have seen one thing is clear, Ruffalo steals the show as Banner, his performance shows all aspects of Banner from his dry wit to his fear of the "other guy". And there is a moment in the movie where he shows what a certified bad-ass Banner really is. Now I guess you could argue that a lot of it might be down to Wheadon's writting which is fair but with out a good performance a good script is worthless. His performance eclipse's Nortons performance, who was pretty good him self. But the people who predicted that Ruffalo would never match Norton's performance oh boy were you [frick]ing wrong.

If you haven't guessed by now what I am trying to get at is may be we should wait till we actually see some footage before judge these actors, Hell I know I've done it my self, totally unrelated but I hated Channing Tatum with passion but his performance in 21 Jump Street was outstanding. So I believe we should all be a bit more open minded about these things, yes some casting choices are plain wrong e.g. Nic Cage as Superman ( you can tell that was going to go wrong).

Any ways so what do you guys think? agree? disagree?. Debate away mother [frick]ers.

In cbm's yeah we do but its because most of these characters have YEARS of characterization and preconcieved notions of who or wha the character is. So of course we are particular about who is cast as those rolesbut in a lot of cases we are wrong

Wait until we see the movie? Are you crazy! We always know the quality of the performance from and actor or an actress months before the film is released. What you are asking for is dangerous friend, and quite insulting. Didn't you know the internet is full of wise soothsayers who know exactly what will make a great movie, and who should play the parts of there fictional heroes. Why wait to see a movie before you judge it. That is just reckless and irrational thinking my friend, and I will have none of it.

I agree with the over-all statement, but completely disagree with Ledger's Joker. I think that Oldman stole the film. Even so, I wasn't expecting RDJ to be a good choice for Tony but (much to be great pleasure) was proven very wrong.

A good actor can turn any roll into something good, today though there aren't too many. There are too many genre specific actors

If you need a good actor, go to England.
That's what Hollywood does.

right on, right on. good topic for an article. Actors can surprise us, that is for damn sure. I thought Ledger was a crazy choices for Joker; I still don't know how Nolan (or whoever made the decision) decided on Ledger, but we are all glad they did.

Did you write this from your phone? There are some weird grammatical and spelling errors that might be due to auto correct.

Ridiculousfanboydemands, lmao your sarcasm failed on me til about halfway through your comment.

I agree with the article to a measuer and I will even admit to my guilt. I guess it's most important that we can admit when we're wrong about it.

Great article Hellsing. I personally think us fanboys can be too picky and closed-minded sometimes and it's great that someone else here thinks so.

Agreed, I've got tired of people bitchin about casting choices, the people who choose the actors are not idiots they know what they are doing! recent examples that people complained about for like it was the end of the world: Ledger as Joker, Evans as Cap, Hemsworth as Thor, Elba as Heimdall, they all owned their roles! I bet Hardy and Hathaway will also be great and shut a lot of mouths up

I feel like Tom Hardy gets a lot of shit for being picked as bane but he is a damn good actor and will own that role. Watch Bronson or Warrior and you will see how good he is.

Damn good article, dude. I was surprised to find out that people bitched about Keaton as Bats. He owned the role!! And I agree that we should stop being so closed minded about casting choices or CBM's that have yet to be released Does people bitching about X-Men: First Class ring a bell? Or people bitching about Marc Webb directing the Spidey reboot?

Also, be a friend and check out my brand new Spiderman cast.
