Over the years we've witnessed some huge break through roles in comic book movie history, I thought it would be a treat to share the best i've seen.

Starting with number 10...

10. Viggo Mortensen- Tom Stall in A History Of Violence

9. Tom Hanks- Michael Sullivan Sr in Road To Perdition

8. Natalie Portman- Evey Hammond in V For Vendetta

7. Robert Downey Jr- Tony Stark in Iron Man

6. Alan Cumming- Nightcrawler in X2

5. Jeffrey Dean Morgan- The Comedian/Edward Blake in Watchmen

4. Mickey Rourke- Marv in Sin City

3. Jackie Earl Haley- Rorschach in Watchmen

2. Heath Ledger- The Joker in The Dark Knight

And finally, my number one favorite performance...

1. J.K. Simmons- J.J. Jameson in The Spider-man Series

Now I know what you're thinking, "Why isn't The Joker number 1?" Well don't get me wrong, Ledger's performance was one of the greatest i've ever seen, but let's face it, they're plenty of other actors that could have played him. But after viewing plenty of people's spiderman fancasts I realized that there is no other actor that could come close to playing J.J. as well as Simmons did.

Well let me know what you think!

I agree with these. Although I would have included Willem Dafoe's Norman Osborn aswell. Possibly also Hugo Weaving as V.

Good choices though (Y)

what about billy zane in the phantom.lol. Plus these were released in the last decade, you don't have the early years from superman all the way to now. still a good list tho.

I agree with J.K. Simmons as the best. I would have also included Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus.

I absolutely agree about J.K. Simmons. I feel he doesn't get enough props for his portrayal of Jameson. Also Hugo Weaving was awesome as V. Perfection really. Also Gary Oldman as Gordon and Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent and Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth would be on my list. Good list!

Nice list! Agree about Simmons/Jameson, that was perfect. I might have ranked RDJ a little higher, I just love him as Stark.

I agree with all of these except Rourke and Portman replace them with Dafoe as Green Goblin or Weaving as V now that is a good performance.

Breasticles - cool article. I would have put Ledger at #1 but I can understand why he would get "bumped" since his portrayal was different than what we have come to expect. But Cheesus Geist did he show some range in that role! Good stuff my man ;-)

InstigatorGIRL - Very well put. All of your additions are deserving of notice and appreciation for their contribution and amazing performances. Brains AND beauty? hmmmmm ...

Breasticles7: Amazing article, well done. I agree completely about JJJ. I remember watching Spider-Man for the first time and think theres the dillweed I've seen in the comics all these years.

there are only seven that i think need to be on that list, and they are aron eckart as two face, brian cox as stryker, ian mcellan as magneto, patric stewart as professor x,edward norton as the hulk, and tim roth as emil blonsky aka abomination. there are a fe wthat needed more screen time to be on that list like james marsden as cyclops and the leader in the hulk film he really didnt have a huge amont of story but hopefully he will in the avengers, but there are some more that could have been really great if they had more story in the films.

What about?

Danny DaVito - Penguin
Warren Beatty - Dick Tracy
Ron Perlman - Hellboy
Jack Nicholson - Joker
Al Pacino - Big Boy Caprice

Just seems their are some other pretty amazing actors that have done great work more so than Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta or Tom Hank's Road to Perdition. Don't get me wrong they still did a fantastic job but I think their are others that made a larger impact as their characters.

I was wondering, is this list for acting the part?just plain good casting?looking and being so similar to the comic book characters???? the whole package???probably stupid questions on my part I know..but I wss just curious...by the way when they do a SPIDERMAN reboot who the hell will play the new Jameson???My vote is that they at least give Simmons the part again!!!!

@AMPworx, you bring a vaild point, not a dumb question at all. I'm mainly judging the acting of the role, but I think everyone on this list was perfect for each part. And I have no idea who will play JJ!!
