What Are Your Superpowers?

What Are Your Superpowers?

If you had superpowers, what would they be? I know you've thought about it. Don't lie.

I have 2 great hobbies in my life, video gaming and comic books, and I have been doing both since I could hold a controller and cradle a book. You see, my father was, and still is, a huge geek. And as his only son, he naturally wanted to pass his love for these 2 things on to me, and boy have we had alot of fun. It's been exactly 21 years since I remember picking up my first comic. It was an Incredible Hulk, as FF and Hulk were my dad's fav's. But characters like the Hulk and Spiderman definitely seem cool, I thought the way alot of heroes obtained their powers was, well, silly sometimes, even at age 6 I remember feeling that way. And then dad showed me who the X-Men were. And I loved them. They didn't get there powers by radioactive spiders or cosmic radiation, they were mutants born with their powers. It was genetic. So, I held out in hopes that along with my first pubic hair, I'd be able to shoot lasers from my eyes. This is when comics became more than a hobby to me, and 21 years later from my first comic book experience, I have boxes upon boxes of books and I'm a total dork versed in the Mythos of comics, so much so I should teach college classes.

So here I am, closing in on 30, yet that childhood desire of manifesting superpowers is as strong today as it was 20 years ago. Yet, with such a large range of powers, what would I want. It might be cool to have Wolverines healing factor and claws, The Flash super speed, or maybe just the wings of Warren Worthington. Alot of people that know me or read my articles on this site would probably assume I'd want Gambits powers. Close! He is my favorite super powered person ever. His powers are Omega level(in Marvel Comics, a Mutant whose power is so strong they could destroy the planet single handedly. Anyone who doesn't believe me that Gambit is, you should really read more comics and learn about his origin and why he is endebted to Sinister.), I have to admit that his would be my silver medal. Telekinetic is what I'd have to go with. Telekinesis, once developed, allows it's user to do anything they can imagine through shear force of will. Things like flight, moving things with thought, and kinetic shielding immediately come to mind, but thats kids stuff. Those are the things the most basic telekinetic's pick up immediately. It's the ability to break down and manipulate matter on a subatomic level I'm after.

Some of the most powerful character's in comic book fiction are Telekinetic, like Jean Grey, Dr. Manhattan, Cable, Conner Kent, and many others. Imagine being able to transmute any object into another object at will. You could slow the movement of atoms and molecules, changing the state of matter in which they exist, like from gas to liquid to solid, or speed them up, dispersing them. How about just breaking an object to it's constituent molecules, then further breaking down the molecules into the individual atoms that comprise them, then dispersing the wave function of the electrons and protons, thereby completely obliterating the objects utter existence or an evidence thereof. Having such control over matter, you could generate atomic reactions, open wormholes in time and space, alter the density of anything, even create and destroy on an epic scale. Anything you can imagine is done by willpower at the speed of thought. Wow! All the power!

That's just me. What would your powers be? Think about if you already haven't. I know most of you probably have. :)

iNsaneMilesy
iNsaneMilesy - 1/18/2009, 10:43 PM
Regeneration would be the top priority, be able to do heroic acts without risk to myself. Telekenisis would be fun but I think i'd end up about 300kg and dying of heart failure from never moving. Flight also would be fun, but usless when you think about it, unless your sheilded, it would be freezing cold, you'd get wind burns, depending on fast you go you could also rip your self apart from the g-forces. cant really carry anyone or anything either unless strength went along with it.
theFACE
theFACE - 1/19/2009, 3:23 AM
it's got to be the ability to fly, iNsaneMilesy is right you'd have to have some sort of regenerative ability or healing factor to got with it.

Teleportation is where it's at! Nightcrawler and that Jumper movie was awesome. Just for the ability to poof anywhere I want, how awesome would that be? That's real freedom right there!

I always liked deadman's powers. Those would be nice to have, minus the whole actually being dead thing.

Just straight Wolverine healing factor for me. I'd have a sword and just be able to heal nothing else. It'd be epic because I be mostly human just not dying, still feel pain, just not fatally. That's my heroism.

oh and Mr Myth...you totally blew my mind with that whole thing. I actually think I heard my brain go....What!? It was intense.lol

ScionStorm
ScionStorm - 1/20/2009, 2:36 AM
Whenever I imagine myself in a comic book world my character's code name has always been Dreamstorm. I'd have 3-4 abilities that could be used in a variety of ways.
1)Telekineses-I could fly, I could move objects that weren't myself, set up a bubble of deflection so that objects couldn't get close enough to hurt.

2)Molecular manipulation- along the similar lines of FMA's alchemy (without the circle equations).

3)space/time/dimensional travel

4)is a toss up between communication between all life and the ability of creation. leaning towards creation. I'm a big fan of the power of imagination.
TheMyth
TheMyth - 1/20/2009, 2:39 AM
I'm glad to see that I ain't the only person that still holds onto these childhood fantasies. What made me choose telekinesis is that it basically covers all the powers. Once you reach a certain level of skill, reality literally becomes clay in your hands to mold as you please. A bomb takes an arm off, you can realign the oxygen molecules in the air to comprise a new arm, or better yet, reconstitute the molecules in the bomb and turn it into a... a... sheep or whatever comes to mind. Anything you can fathom becomes reality. ANYTHING! Can I stress that more, lol. ANYTHING! I do definitely see your point of view on it though Rorschach. Ultimate power = ultimate corruption, and all that, right. So then i'd have to go along with Gambit's powers. Like all mutants, his power is so much more than simply blowing stuff up. Just like Angel's hollow bones or Cyclops reinforced spine, Gambit's body is perfectly evolved to work in congress with his powers. Only I don't think I'd have his good-guy complex and restrict the application of my power to inanimate objects. I'd be throwing kinetically charged kittens at people, mostly cause they'd be encouraged to catch them instead of running away.
TheMyth
TheMyth - 1/20/2009, 2:46 AM
ScionStorm: My hero name would be "The Myth" and I'd be a Deadpool type character in the sense that your not really sure if I'm a good guy or bad, but when the chips are down, you could trust me to do the right thing... eventually.
ScionStorm
ScionStorm - 1/20/2009, 3:30 AM
lol TheMyth, is he really there or is not. Like when Batman first started people weren't sure if he was real. Sounds like someone who really prizes keeping their identity totally in the dark.

My name comes from the idea of the power of imagination, anything I can dream I can make reality. The storm is my personal symbol for creation/tivity with chaos being it's opposite. I'd probably be social but I like to surprise people on my cross-dementional travels by first using my powers subtly. I also would find challengers who could challenge me in combat to find new ways of excercising my imagination's power. I'd be a hero though with a strong sense of morals. I'd probably be as stubborn as Captain America, as unpredictable and brooding as Spidey, and probably be a little bit of a showoff like IronMan. lol
ScionStorm
ScionStorm - 1/20/2009, 3:52 AM
Well I don't know. Since creative powers would be controlled be my imagination I'd already have a lock on only what I could imagine. And keeping my focus and calm under preassure not breaking concentration. I'd still be mortal, not a god. I'd feel pain. I don't understand how to imagine away pain. Unless I reconstitute my body to something without receptors. But alass, crop up too much on the radar of power and the Universe itself has a way of smacking you back down to size.
redrum010
redrum010 - 1/20/2009, 4:08 AM
Here's a different one. Not really a power more like an awesome job...

The Loxmyth. A humble locksmith in a small rural town who owns a quaint little shop. But in his basement lie countless doors to countless worlds and realities. Wherever you want to go can be found there. Want to visit a galaxy far, far away? Done. See a king with a round table. Alright. Visit the gods on Olympus? Not a problem. The Loxmyth holds the key to any door you can think of...

Since I was a little kid I read comic books. I've read them so much that I even came up with some of my own super heros, with their own powers. Over the years I've created more characters and also gave them secrete idenenties, super-vilians,and even alternate universe situation. So it is very hard to pick what superpower I would choose. But if I had to choose which power I would probably go with super strength and flight.
BubbaDude
BubbaDude - 1/20/2009, 8:48 AM
Cool idea about the loxmyth...

I've always been drawn to the more human characters...Captain America, Hawkman, Green Arrow, etc.

To me those characters can face a wider range of conflict, without the need for more supsension of disbelief(i know, comics are FOR suspending disbelief).

While Cap is my alltime favorite, Hawkman is a close second.

I have often said, to whoever would listen, that the only superpower I'd want would be to simply fly.

...to loose the surly bonds of earth, and all that.
Kyos
Kyos - 1/20/2009, 9:39 AM
I have to agree with TheMyth - telekinesis wins, for all the reasons he summed up. Really, the versatility of this power is just so great. Even if you stick to the "kids stuff". ;)

Flying as a power of it's own is a close second, while healing or invulnerability would also be appreciated.

I would LOVE the power to generate and manipulate electricity and the ability to fly!

Even though this sounds silly, I have actually flown but in my dreams...and it is an AWESOME experience. It felt waaaaay better than a roller coaster or something like it!

Give me Rogue's power and i would own them all. I would then spend my life trying to make up for all the lives i took in order to make my powers permanent. I would have no name.
oh and RedRum010.... cool idea!!!
ReikoLJ
ReikoLJ - 1/20/2009, 2:22 PM
Flight, no need to think about it. I have always wanted to fly and daydream about it often.
Of course there are many powers I covet, mind reading... invisibility, all sorts. But if I could only have one, it would be flight.

Loxmyth sounds awesome! You need to lock that idea down and get get your name behind it dude. Before its stolen and someone makes a mint.
Shaman

Well i would have Orgazmo's power...

What am i talking about, i already have that power :P
DarkAvengers
DarkAvengers - 1/20/2009, 3:20 PM
Wally West's power... Super Speed of course. He can blow out the speed of sound without any effort. Although some of the simple things like waiting in line or shit like that would get annoying.
adamant877
adamant877 - 1/20/2009, 3:58 PM
Telekinesis... It covers flight, the ability to use force blast (what's cooler?), moving objects, and force fields.

crappybumbum: Man i know EXACTLY what you mean. i´ve dreamed many many times in my life i could flight( but not just that i was over mountains etc, but more like a normal LIFE-STYLE).

When i get to have those dreams and then wake up the next morning I DON´T FEEL SAD TO REALIZE IT WAS A DREAM...I FEEL GREAT! because IT FELT SO REAL, i then feel happy to have that "Super-Powered-Parallel-Life-Asleep".

parascythe
parascythe - 1/20/2009, 7:27 PM
i was thinking of a superpower that i can acquire immediately as i imagine them and as needed...its like saying i can be everything i want and have all the superpowers you have at my command...
Superman4
Superman4 - 1/20/2009, 8:03 PM
Invulnerability, superspeed, super strength, super hearing and flight. If I really had these powers I would try to unite the world and bring peace to it because I think thats what the world needs is someone with great power doing good deeds and setting an example through inspiration and not fear. Oh and as far a costumes go I'd dress up as Superman.
