AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER Stills Take Us Back To Pandora...And Into The Planet's Gorgeous Oceans

AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER Stills Take Us Back To Pandora...And Into The Planet's Gorgeous Oceans

Some stills from Avatar: The Way of Water have surfaced, and they showcase the incredible work filmmaker James Cameron has put into recreating Pandora more than a decade after the first movie's release.

The first footage from Avatar: The Way of Water was shown to CinemaCon attendees earlier this week, while it was later confirmed that the movie's trailer will play in front of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The plan is to then release it online a week later, but it appears some screenshots have leaked online courtesy of Chinese box office expert @gavinfeng97.

As you might expect, we finally get to see the Avatar sequel's breathtaking water setting, while an older Jake, and a character we're assuming is his daughter, also receive the spotlight here.

That first movie smashed box office records back in 2009, and filmmaker James Cameron has kept us waiting more than a decade for this sequel. Of course, in that time, he's helped create a real-life Pandora for Disney World and pushed technology to a point where he can tell several of these stories over the next decade. Will The Way of Water similarly break records? That remains to be seen.

Hopefully, more from this one will be revealed soon, but that trailer really can't get here fast enough.

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

Avatar: The Way of Water arrives in theaters worldwide on December 16.

@dracula - I hate that James Cameron called his film Avatar. Pandora would have been a better name.

dracula - 5/1/2022, 12:18 AM
@JermareCBM - on the bright side it stopped the movie that does not exist in ba sing se from using the title

Downside is it also stopped legend of korra from using it in it’s title

@JermareCBM - James Cameron does what James Cameron must… because James Cameron, CAN!

@JermareCBM - in fairness, avatar does suit this franchise better. I mean, the main technology of the franchise puts people in avatar bodies. And the nature of aang being reincarnated, which makes him the avatar, is kinda weird since he can just talk to his past lives as if their spirits exist separate from aang.

If there’s two movie this year that could top multiverse of madness it’s Jurassic park 6 and avatar 2. Having said that, I’m not betting on it. If it does happen tho I won’t say the sky is falling. Bear in mind that Jurassic world and some transformers movie close to that time, topped many MCU films. Heck JW topped Ultron. Well, I’m not discouraged by it I’m encouraged. Rising tide etc. movies succeeding is good, period. Aaaand 3 MCU movies passing a billion (I’m confident each one of em will) will be reminiscent of 2017’s 3 800 mill MCU movies. Except higher

Couldn't possibly care less.
Cameron's wasted all this time on these movies that SHOULD have been out YEARS AGO (-so what HAVE you been DOING with your time??) when you could have been doing something really new and REALLY exciting.

@Quinn -Everything about this looks like more Disney crap.
Of course you would love it.
It's not going to make $4 billion.
No one gives a shit about Avatar.
LOL.
Suck it and see.
This will be lucky to make one billion.
Garbage movie.

My prediction, this 2nd film will make money no matter the quality. If it's actually really good it might hit the billion dollar club, but no matter what, even if it's bad it's gonna do well at the box office. They will be moving forward with the 3rd no matter what.

But if the second is bad, I expect a huge drop in sales for the 3rd and for the 4th to potentially get shelved. This film needs to deliver or else this franchise is dead. It's been way too long, what magic it had isn't really around anymore. So this film has to be good to keep Avatar alive.

The whole movie is probably gonna look [frick]ing amazing, but other than that I don't know what this movie has going for it. A lot of movies nowadays looks amazing nowadays, and this time it doesn't have some technical feat setting itself apart.

That said, I can still see it crack a billion at the box office. Name alone is probably gonna get a lot of people into the seats.
