Gareth Edwards directs “Godzilla,” which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kick-Ass”), Oscar® nominee Ken Watanabe (“The Last Samurai,” “Inception”), Elizabeth Olsen (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”), Oscar® winner Juliette Binoche (“The English Patient,” “Cosmopolis”), and Sally Hawkins (“Blue Jasmine”), with Oscar® nominee David Strathairn (“Good Night, and Good Luck.,” “The Bourne Legacy”) and Bryan Cranston (“Argo,” TV’s “Breaking Bad”).

Super funny how excited people were for this film and then it came out and you barley heard anything. I thought people were going way over board on the trailor and from what I gather it was pretty underwhelming. Glad I didn't waste my Money at the movies for this.

@Namor,

"I thought people were going way over board on the trailor"

Can you blame them?
Those trailers were awesome.

Especially the 'Fatman' trailer WB took down.

The movie was a mixed bag honestly. I thought it was awesome, but everyone was expecting something different from it, so some people thought it was great and some people thought it was lame.

The best way to describe the movie is probably comparing it to Jaws. Same basic buildup. Now, if you wanted to see two hours of monsters just fighting, this isn't your movie.

Personally, I would recommend seeing it, because if nothing else, the monsters look AMAZING on the big screen.
But it's your money, not mine... :P

why not both? can't I enjoy both kind of films? do I really have to choose? the "dark and gritty = good/ colorful and cheesy = bad" argument is really stupid and it got old 6 years ago when TDK came out.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, and mine is that pretty much everything about this movie was perfect; I've said ad nauseum that this was the best moviegoing experience I've had outside of an MCU film, so much so that I've seen it three times. Hope to catch it one more time before the long wait for the blu-Ray begins.

Niiiiice. THis movie was sick. Exactly what I wanted my Godzilla movie to be.

On another note, off topic really, I just read the thread where John Byrne talks about the problem of not enough black characters in CBMs and just slapping a black face on it to appease the masses is just hurting the real problem of a lack of unique strong black characters.

DAMN it was good. I suggest everybody take a peak at that article. Made me really think.

This was Battle: Los Angeles with aliens substituted for giant radioactive monsters. A generic action military movie where the lead soldier is constantly placed in situations with the monsters and miraculously survives every encounter. At least it made sense in Battle LA. Godzilla was nothing more than a contrived and glorified deus ex machina

When I saw this, the power in my theater went out about 5 minutes in, was a pretty cool effect until I had to sit in the dark for a couple of minutes until the power came back on.

I loved this movie; that being said, I think Warner felt like they had to hold back on this one in order to show Toho that America could treat Godzilla properly first.

Great concept art for a terrific film. I'm glad this film got Godzilla right. If the film where to have full focus on the fight scenes then the audience would be bored and there would have been no excitement to the last fight of the film. I'm actually glad that the film focused on the human disaster and how people would view MUTO's and Godzilla as a threat. This film seriously felt like an event and felt that it was paying homage to the Godzilla films with putting it's own spin on things.

I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. I could have done without the musical number that had Godzilla twerking at the end but, all in all, an enjoyable film.

I'm now being told that the musical number was not actually in the film and that I had eaten the wrong mushrooms on my pizza. Still enjoyed it!

You could compare 'Godzilla' (2014) to 'Jaws' EXCEPT 'Jaws' had superb acting from James Woods and Robert Shaw. The monster and story were great in 'Godzilla' despite what people say but Aaron Taylor-Johnson sucked. Bryan Cranston;s talent made Johnson look like a complete amateur.
